new player... want to go Rebels.... what to do first?

By Wiredin, in Star Wars: Armada

I picked up a starter, extra dice, Home One, and a rebel squadrons kit this week. Probably won't get to play for a few weeks. I got about $80 CAD left for another big ship and a small ship or what not... (CR90 averages $25...$40-50 for the MC30/Assault II etc.). What would be the key buy here to expand my fleet? Or should I grab an ISD?

Try and get used to the basic rules first. Move ships around on your coffee table or dining table, feel they out work with them and get used to them. From there just build some small 200 point fleets with what you have and practice moving them around.

I suggest you get second maneuver tool. You only need to build it up to the 2 section and you are good. It will help you out a bit.

As for whats next to buy, thats up to you. Do you want to go faster? Then the CR90 and MC30 will help. Do you want to be more of a tank? Than the assault frigate is good (Flip its tail around it looks better!)

You want to go Rebels?

Okay, so the procedure is this:

  1. Report yourself to your local Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) office.
  2. Pack your valuable belongings and wait for the ISB to arrive.

You shall not need your valuable belongings on the Spice Mines of Kessel, but they can be pawned off to assist the widows, widowers, and orphans of the Imperial Navy officers, stormtroopers, and Imperial Army personnel who have had to pay the supreme sacrifice for protecting the Imperial way of life from your vile Rebellion, as well as a 'transaction fee' for the local ISB officers.

Ignore him. He is sort of a fossil on these threads. He has seemed to have dusted himself off and is back now . . . for how long I wonder.

Heyas mate, first of all, welcome to the show. -laughs-

If you're planning on going exclusively rebels, you've already got a fairly decent little task force going. I'd agree with Ly-ly there, have a few games at, say 200 points or even 300 (like we all did for a while) and see if you can get a feel for what you're missing and what you like to command. You may find you like the heavier warships like the RAF II or just a number of smaller ships.

My personal opinion would be that you might consider looking into the MC30c, then ask around if anyone has some spare Nebulon B titles (for a time, people were picking them up just to get Intel Officer and XI7's, so you may be in luck there).

We're in a time of flux, so everything we 'know' may go out the window soon enough with the arrival of flotillas, then again with the new wave IV capital ships. It may be worth it to save a bit for them just to see what style of gameplay you enjoy.

I'd ask where abouts in Canada you are, so we can look at securing you a hookup with a local game group when its time :D

Oh, yeah!?

Well, I got more likes than you.

So there! h15095.gif

That's Cute.

I second that.

I'm building my local Armada community and always looking for new players and am in touch with neighbouring communities too.

If your in Calgary, I'll sell you an ISD with all the trimmings, 25% off the local price...

You appear on the X-Wing forums. . . I am not sure that counts. . . They like anything.

Sounds like sour grapes to me. Besides, I've not been there much for a good long while.

But stop trying to derail this thread. There's some good folks here trying turn Wiredin to the Dark Side, and get him to rethink his rebellious ways.

Good folks, maybe... Oppressive and High-handed, certainly...

Join the Rebels.

Be your own Captain.

Welcome to the game!

You've got a great start already, here are a few ways to complement it:

1. A second squadron pack, Rogues and Villains, and a Nebulon-B expansion pack: You've now got what you need to run effective squadron heavy fleets, which you can direct from your MC80.

2. Corvette, Nebulon-B, save the rest for an Assault Frigate: Key titles and upgrades useful for your units from the starter set. It may seem like you're repeating units, but the expansions give you key cards and especially ship titles that will make your starter units that much more effective. Both ships are ones that tend to occur in multiples in lots of lists.

Thanks everyone. I'm from Edmonton, joined the facebook group but it seems quiet. I mostly bought in because the ships look awesome (same reason I bought into X-Wing... and well... mistakes were made, time to do it again.) I plan to be a bit more controlled with my Armada's though and not buy 60 ships in two months.

I've already ordered rouges and villans off the good ol' amazon and debating on what else to get. I was thinking a couple of CR90's and a B just so I can muster a little fleet. In X-wing I'm all about speed, favoring the A wings and E wings for the rebels.

But... hey, an ISD would look awesome up on the mantle wouldn't it? Maybe imperial might to crush the rebel alliance once and for all....strike them down and become the ultimate power in the galaxy....

Well I like the Emperor Passing Wind.

Mongo Like!!

I think the group is quiet in Edmonton because they just had their Regionals are are feeling a little Wiped out :D

Get onto Vykes. He's the big man of the Edmonton Forums who hangs out here...

I can help you if you do the Trip South... We have our Regionals on the 30th of This Month (last Regionals int he World!) and I know a few from "E-Cloud City" are looking at making the trip to Hothgary :D

Big man of E-cloud City... I like that. Only ever had any real pull on Elder Scrolls forums -laughs-. Yep, I'm looking forward to going to Hothgary if I can manage to finish up all the work around here.

And welcome to the Edmonton group, mate. Aye, we are fairly quiet but that's because 1-2 of the more prominent sorts are away and a few more are our event champs from juuuust out of town proper. Good to have ya, and yeah, you can usually give me a shout or pop down to Red Claw as that's my little Friday lair.

I can see what I've got for extras and the like, but here's one big thing I know about the Edmonton shops... they're fine and friendly but also exceptionally expensive. While I don't quite like breaking etiquette for links, I'll say search for 'Book Depository' out of the UK, and search for Armada. If you don't mind waiting, they're about half the price of the stuff here and free shipping. While I'm good for patronizing the shops I like (Red Claw, All Star when I'm there, Avalon now that they're reopened, and even occasionally Mission though they don't hold anything Armada related) the difference between a $72 ISD and a $39 ISD is significant enough to be disloyal on big purchases. For an MC30c, which are already tiny, the gap is just as big.

If you like speed, MC30's are pretty fun and probably at the top of my list given how hard they hit.

You realise you're going to have to wear a Cape now, if you come to Hothgary.... Or at least have a helper with headgear :D

... I suddenly need to figure out who in the western world sells capes :P

oh boo. Red Claw is near impossible for me to reach on a Friday (working deep south side until 6pm every Friday) but I'll coordinate on my odd Friday off here and there when I may be able ot make it.

I buy from Warp 1 mostly. Not only do I save GST with membership, but I find they got the best prices. ie: My rebel fighters and the Home One cost me $60

I'm up near Onoway so everything is equally far. Which means I can flit about Edmonton like an a-social butterfly whenever I want (got to make some gamer joke, eh?). Aye, that's not too bad a price, about $30 lower than Mission.
