What's up, Gamer Nation?

In three weeks time we will be welcoming Tim Huckelbery (and possibly another FFG writer or two) to the show to talk about the ins, the outs, and the answers to your questions about Savage Spirits!

Naturally, they can't answer your questions unless you ask them, so type up your questions about the book here! We'll compile them and ask every one we can to get you the answers you seek.

As always, we have to state that we are taking questions for Savage Spirits only. Questions about other books will take a back seat and likely won't be answered due to time constraints. Questions about future FFG products will not be asked. As they've stated to us in the past, they can't answer any questions about products or material that has not been announced yet.

Also, please refrain from discussion about the questions raised by anyone posting below. We're trying to make sure we get everyone's questions, and don't want to lose any in the potential chatter.

I believe you mean Savage Spirits?

I'll just post a few that have been brought up in general discussion before: The status of Harass and Menace as Force talents; they both only work with bonded animals, and Animal Bond is a Force talent; Harass is shown to be a Force talent in the tree but it isn't described as such on its full description. Ultimately, are Harass and Menace supposed to be Force talents, or not?

EDIT: Speaking of Menace, what is the reasoning behind it's limitations? For it to even be useful, a character would have to have a Force rating of 4 (which would require a second specialization with another rank of Force rating), as it only works with Silhouette 2 creatures that are linked through Animal Bond and are "suitably threatening," which excludes such creatures as the nexu, which would seem an ideal match for the talent.

Also, Farsight's Control upgrade that grants more ranks in Perception has conflicting descriptions on how it works and in comparison to other powers. Is it a regular commit action? Is it a commit that can only be used after the basic power is used? Does its effects end after the basic power ends, or does it remain in effect as long as the die remains committed?

And of course the usual: "Why were these three species chosen over others?"

I have a question regarding the BlasTech M-300 hunting blaster and it having the "Stun Damage" quality. Is this intended, or is it supposed to be "Stun Setting"? Because nothing in the description indicates it is a non-lethal weapon.

Also, comparing Hermit's Force Connection talent with Pathfinder's Animal Empathy talent, it seems Force Connection can be used in all the situations Animal Empathy can be used, and more. Thoughts?

And for a question that doesn't relate to errata, what was the inspiration for choosing the three specializations? What characters or concepts were they based on?

Okay Farsight Mastery power:

1. Can you apply the other benefits to the mastery?

2. After activating it can you still see what is happening around you?

3. Are you leaving your body helpless while it is active?

4. Can you move this viewpoint around to follow people or further explore the area?

5. What is the sight range of this view point? Can you Upgrade the range of the view point to see a larger area?

6. What speed does the view point move at?

When you mention object in Farsight what precisely do you mean?

Can I declare a wall to be the object or say a building?

Is there a Sil limitation so I can't just use X-Ray Vision to see through a Yt-1300 transport or say the ground I'm standing on?

Is this in addition or instead of my standard use so If I were to see through say a chest would I see the contents despite it not having any light in the chest?

When I see through say a chest does it completely disappear from my sight or Can I see the inner workings of the locking mechanism or traps that are integrated into the chest?

I'm wondering, where did the decision to make Quermians six-limbed come from? Every single non-fanart image of them, both online and in the book itself, show them with only two arms.

Hi Blackbird and thanks for the patience in the reply. Those are indeed errors: Harass should be a Force talent, and the hunting blaster should have a Stun setting instead. Good catches and these will be included in the errata file. Thanks and thanks for playing!

Can be axed (and I assume Menace is supposed to be a Force talent, although that can still be asked if you want).

Does it work at all ranges up to long (engaged through long) or only at long?

as I am new to the forum, I would like to start the post by thanking everyone involved in the creation of this amazing system . I was in love with it since I was introduced to it late last year. I am collecting the FaD line and the artworks alone are thoughtinspiring. Thank you, truly.

Next, a thank you to the hosts of O66 podcast . Listening to your thought processes and advice helped me to truly understand the spirit and the depth of the game.

And finally, my question: it is related to the new Power, Farsight . I understand it is not directly designed that way but would you think that with the control upgrades purchased, it would be a viable option to introduce the Kiffar's (e.g. Quinlan Vos) ability of Psychometry ?

That's what I got out of reading what the power does. Very cool because I thought his kind of "force powered investigation" shown in Dark Disciple was a neat idea.

Unsure. I've only got vague ideas of how Farsight works since I don't own a copy of Savage Spirits. I had thought the power was about just seeing with the force at distances.

In its basic form, yes, but the control upgrades allow the user to make out fine or even microscopic details on a specific object.

Like Superman's microscopic and telescopic vision? Interesting. You know, considering Psychometry has a lot to do with seeing visions, it might even work with the power of Foresight.

First off thanks for answering our questions.

Question 1: Seeker has both Piloting Skills as Career skills, yet Navigator is the only specialisation to use that in any way, but without any talents directly related to Piloting. What was the thinking that went into this? Obviously Enhance is an easy answer, and the Podracer/Starfighter Ace in other careers, but it's surprising to me that there wasn't a single Piloting Spec, perhaps someone that is an expert at Difficult terrain.

Question 2: Navigator, an Intelligent outdoorsman. Who was the clever person who came up with this interesting twist? and what was the thinking that went into its development? Whiphid Navigator seems to be like peas and carrots if you ask me.

On page 70 of Savage Spirits it is stated that bonded animals add two boost dice when performing the Assist Maneuver. If a bonded animal has the Pack Instincts ability, would it then add 3 boost dice when assisting it's master?

  • Menace and Harass: yes, both are Force talents.
  • Farsight Control: The text in the tree for the Perception control upgrade is incorrect; the text in the lengthier description is correct. Bottom line is: this upgrade works like a normal Commit.
  • The M-300 is supposed to have the "Stun setting" quality, not the "Stun Damage" quality.

Yes you can mix Master with other upgrades, yes you can still see around you, no it is not astral projection. My memory is hazy here, but I believe they said you can't move the Mastery vision. I don't think they touched on the second half of the question.

More or less, this was not FFG's design decision, and they are four-armed. Seems like a missed opportunity for art, but what have you.

Just my two cents, but older sources mention them as being six-limbed, and new, now-canon sources (Ultimate Star Wars) mentions them as being six-limbed.

Yes it applies to targets within long range (so short-long range), and it applies to all attacks, including ally attacks.

No, farsight is not psychometry.

  1. Seeker is good at going places and finding things, and is capable of using vehicles, but it's not their focus. They might be on foot navigating to a location, or acting as a navigator on a starship, or the copilot, but not necessarily piloting.
  2. Navigator is more likely to break out the maps and compass to navigate, while other survivalists rely more on intuition and feeling. More or less.
