Obi-Wan Preview
So there's still no revealed timeline, but Obi-Wan specifically has a campaign version. INTERESTING.
Alter Mind ![]()
He seems pretty good. Slow and 'only' a black die, but RGY attack + pierce 3 and +2 damage, is a lot of damage output
means against 1 black defense die:
4 damage: 91%
5 damage: 72%
6 damage: 43%
against a white die:
4 damage: 74%
5 damage: 58%
6 damage: 35%
(We already knew that he has a campaign version, because it was visible in the wave 7 preview. And thus he had to have a skirmish version as well.)
But we haven't seen his Skirmish card yet!

7 Cost! I've got some Rebel squads to build for GenCon....
[:happy dance: :fist pump: :happy dance:)
The campaign version is a bit expensive tbh. A single figure melee deployment needs to be aggressively costed. His saving grace is that he has high noncombat utility, but it will be dependant on your squad, which is fine honestly. I like that. If you have fenn, diala, biv, and no Saska, then he might be worth it later in the campaign.
So Obi-Wan is awesome. 12HP, 3 dice attack. Hits pretty much as hard as Vader (minus the Brutality and Choke of course) and is only 7 points!

I would pay 10 threat to be able to Push an AT-ST that is blocking the objective.
I was a bit disappointed when I saw the 10 points on the card, but reading his abilities I think he could be quite interesting as an ally in the campaign.
Then 7 points for the skirmish version, Yes please I will take that thank you, 7 points is a good spot for Rebels for trying to fit him into a list, and with situational abilities fair, but the three dice attack it is great.
I don't think he is on the same level as the Grand Inquisitor (who I think is a little undercosted) but he is certainly a lot more powerful than other similar characters ie Diala. Pretty clear that FFG are pricing uniquens differently, which is great because they weren't right, but I hope that they go back and buff the earlier characters in the same way that they changed royal guard etc, would be pretty easy just knock a point or two off characters from the early waves.
Is this the first time we have had a character with two different costs?
Edited by PwmfWonder why his subtitle is Jedi Knight rather than Jedi Master.
Ancient lightsabre, awesome. I want to be able to dual wield with Jedi characters now.
The two different cost is very interesting. I wish they would errata the cost of some of the other figures like Han and Chewie, to bring them into more campaigns and/or skirmishes.
Overall a pretty powerful unit and seems to be as balanced as necessary. I am excited to pick these three packs up.. but I still am confused about the campaign timeline. They are coming out right away and we can just use them whenever? We need some clarification FFG!
Edited by FrogTriggerI like how his Alter Mind ability encourages more unique figures on the board.
In my newbieness I was worried his place in history would mean they would restrict his character a lot for usage. While I respect and am glad of the time period ideas, I also like the idea of being able to play more with the pieces I buy, so glad he wasnt restricted
Looks so good.
Well, luckily the two force users can be ghosts/spirits of themselves. We have seen many strong force users reappear either in dreams or during scenes. Plus the core has "spirit" versions of the badies, so I can see these being the same way.
You guys are missing how powerful Obi Wan is in campaign mode. He gives ALL figures an auto surge. So now the elites can auto pass 2 surge tests with 1 interaction. Thats powerful.
Lastly I LOVE the different point costs. This opens up the possibility of them just reprinting Han Solo or Darth Vader or Chewbacca the same exact card with the same exact abilities, just a lower cost and the additional "skirmish" only icon!

I would love to see new Skirmish-only cards for all of the big Uniques from the first few Waves. I think the pieces themselves play quite well...it's just a matter of fixing their Cost.

And then give them away at Regionals so only 8% of the playerbase gets them!! ![]()
10 points is really too much for campaign. When you're giving the Imperials enough points to be able to kill your ally with those points in a single round, guess what is going to happen. An ally dead at the entrance.
The ally rules really need to be fixed. The points you're giving the Imperials benefits from agenda, attachments and other class cards. The ally gets none of that, so even if the points are fair, which they're not as elite troopers are flat out better than him, they get made seriously unfair by all the bonuses the Imperials add to those points. Additionally giving the Imperials all those points up front will, for many missions, mean that squad of troopers is going to sit around the entire game dumping out damage round after round because they're on top of the troops the game was already balanced for.

Is this wave due in stores this week? I'd be pretty happy to get Greedo before we start our next campaign.
Next week, 14th Jul.
Is the Ancient lightsaber tier 2 or 3 ?
By its four-digit cost (1000cr) it most definitely is tier III.
Edited by a1bertProbably tier 3. Not many good 3 dice options at tier 2. The only one I can think of doesn't have mod slot and no surge for damage
