New Bomber Lists

By teddygundam, in X-Wing Squad Lists

What's your favorite list to run with the new Imperial Veterans pilots/upgrades?

A pair of Gamma Vets with Deadeye, Chips, Homing Missiles and Extra Munitions make a great start. They come in at 54 points which leaves enough for a tooled up Whisper or DeciVader to clean up after the alpha strike.

Deathfire with LRS, Homers or Plasma, EMs and a Conner Net also looks promising. The ability to drop the Net either before or after moving (and as a free action) makes him very flexible, even after his missiles are gone.

What do you think of this?

Firstly I would recommend replacing the Concussion Missiles on the last bomber with Proton Torpedoes. The reason for this is that Concussion Missiles and Chips both flip blank results meaning that unless you roll 2+ blanks, you will not be able to apply both at the same time. Proton Torpedoes + Chips give more hits on average than Concussion Missiles if you do not have a focus token to spend (I am assuming you will have spent the Focus to trigger Deadeye).

I am also not convinced by Cluster Missiles. They are weak against high agility ships and although they are OK against low agility ships, I think plasmas do better against these targets while being cheaper. Instead of 2 bombers with Cluster Missiles, I would run 1 with Homing Missiles for Ace-hunting and 1 with plasma torpedos for hitting large, heavily shielded targets (Ghost-busting ;)).

I think with chips you can turn ANY die into a hit (or crit if your primary attack is 3 or more).

This is my bomber build. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but based on some practice so far, it should do just fine against all the popular meta builds out there:

Whisper w/ VI, gunner, FCS & ACD = 44

2 Gamma Vets w/ crack shot, homing missile, extra munitions & long-range scanners = 27 x 2

98

It works just like the 'classic' decimator + phantom builds of yore, except the bombers replace the decimator and deal huge gobs of damage before getting taken out. The best part is, that Whisper build is more than adequate to take out anything still alive. And the bombers only need to fire one missile each to be totally worth their cost. And chances are at least one will fire both missiles, which is just gravy...

My current build:

The Inquisitor [Veteran Instincts, TIE/v1, Autothrusters] (29)

Gamma Squadron Veteran [Crack Shot, Extra Munitions, Homing Missiles, Long Range Scanners] (27)

Gamma Squadron Veteran [Crack Shot, Extra Munitions, Homing Missiles, Long Range Scanners] (27)

“Epsilon Ace” (17)

Also tried Gamma sqd bombers and had Zeta leader + wired.

Works exceptionally well vs aces. And if you get the drop on a jumpmaster you can kill it before it even fires.

Trick is of course being able to concentrate all your weapons on a single one of them buggers. ;)

This is what I was thinking of running but with concussion on all of them and adaptability on Jonus. I call it the Jonus Brothers.
