New toys : Bren + Deathfire

By polmoneys, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Could use some ideas on how to build around the 2 new named bombers. I've avoided a 3 ship squad (any ace fits) because bombers melt fast, and discarded spaming bombers/alpha strike as me loves funky dials.

So far a fragile (no boost/PTL/AT is scary) mix with Fos entertains my mind, please pitch in.

Tomax Bren (24)

Crack Shot (1)

Extra Munitions (2)

Homing Missiles (5)

Guidance Chips (0)

"Deathfire" (17)

Extra Munitions (2)

Flechette Torpedoes (2)

Conner Net (4)

Long-Range Scanners (0)

"Zeta Leader" (20)

Wired (1)

"Omega Leader" (21)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Total: 100

I think bren with homing missiles like long range scanners better than guidance chips. Ace hunting is easier when you have the target lock before you get in range. At least in my opinion.

I also dont feel like omega leader will pull much weight with just veteran instincts. Could probably get more out of epsilon ace for less there. I know he loses the whole target lock trick, but if you just want ps then 12 is impossible to beat.

43pts is enough for Inquisitor + Academy. Nice blocker for every list, especially vs crackswarms, one good block, and they all bump losing their actions.

Could also do Omega Leader and Backstabber. Flank with backstabber, and they either let him get his additional attack die, or turn toward him letting you get a missile strike.

Looks interesting. Deathfire looks about as good as you can get him; Long Range Scanners and a single cheap torpedo give him some forward punch, whilst Bren is just a straight-up threat; Crack Shot Homing Missiles are scary.

TIE/fos do give you a nice dial, and Zeta Leader/Wired is a nice combination. Still, Omega Leader with just Veteran Instincts, as noted, isn't so amazing; if you target lock, you won't have an evade, and you lack Juke so even with your ability getting a hit through is harder than it looks.

I'd probably consider trying to turn two TIE/fos into three TIE fighters. Once your ammo's down, you're going to essentially be a swarm - why not embrace it? Besides which; a TIE swarm is one of the best things for pouncing on a connor-netted target.

I like both ideas, thanks !

We'll see if Bren need chips or not, keep you posted !

You could try Omega Ace w/PTL and Mk II engines, along with Epsilon Leader. There's some good synergy there.

2 matches in so far.

1 with @wurns suggestion, imho very solid.

1 with Fos. No AT on any ship feels really wrong, discarded for now.

Overall Deathfire is fantastic,it's a shame it only has one bomber slot. Bren was a bit meh as his lifespan is so short that can only wonder how terrible the MOV would be with him on a tourney.

so, next iteration wanna try is Conner Deatfhire, Inqui + CM Vessery:

Colonel Vessery (35)

Ruthlessness (3)

Tractor Beam (1)

Cluster Missiles (4)

Guidance Chips (0)

TIE/D (0)

Thoughts? Looks as scary (or more) than Bren but can evade better.
