Add auxiliary firing arc on A-Wing.

By JimbonX, in X-Wing

It shows up in "Wraith Squadron," the X-wing novel that introduces that squadron, in the final battle against ISD Implacable. Admiral Trigit is escaping in a modified, hyperdrive and shield equipped TIE Interceptor along with ttwo likewise equipped wingmen. General Crespin, in an A-wing, uses rotating lasers to pick of one of the wingmen while firing his concussion missiles to eliminate the other. Meanwhile, Myn Donos, oncoming in an X-wing and out for vengence because Trigit ran a mission that wiped out his former squadron, fires his proton torpedoes to take out Trigit while the fleeing Admiral is blinded by his rapidly evaporating wingmen. Donos anticipates the scenario after imagining what he would do while if he were in an A-wing with lasers that can traverse.

Just wanted to throw out the source material. Also, General Crespin would be a great A-wing pilot for this mod to show up as a unique pilot ability since we see him making use of them. He was leading Polerarm Squadron, formerly Blue Squadron while they were in training and yet to formalize a squadron title. Pash Cracken would also be an excellent choice since he's a famed A-wing pilot we don't have yet. Perhaps: Pash Cracken (PS8), General Edor Crespin (PS7) and Polerarm Squadron Pilot (PS4). There were also a few other Polerarm pilots mentioned by name, Dorset Konnair and Tetengo Noor. They're named earlier in the book when two Polerarm A-wings and two Wraith Squadron X-wings, piloted by Kell Tainer and Runt, race through a trench to provide recon on an advancing Imperial force. Noor is seen again in the series, in "Solo Command," and killed when a nearby Imperial ship explodes, enveloping his fleeing A-wing. Later Todra Mayn is named Captain of Polerarm Squadron and is seen several times at squadron briefings alongside Wedge.

Below is a link to a form thread I had awhile back trying to come up with new A-wing pilots based on Polerarm Squadron. All the pilots mentioned above are in it as custom cards.

(I'm giving Polerarm PS4 since Red Squadron X-wings are PS4 and I'm *still* hoping we get a Rogue Squadron Pilot for the X-wing, probably at PS5.)

ALL OF THIS, YES!!!!!

Can you point me to a page reference? Traverse is not equivalent to 360 rotation. The Standard TIE/LN cannon traverses in a swivel mount allowing to shoot almost sideways. Vader's Advanced has a similar function seen when he is chasing the X-wings down the trench. Specs that talk about Traverse Travel on the A-wing say about 60 degrees. If Crespin is firing against 2 wingmen, using Missiles against one why would the cannon be shooting out the rear?

You're very demanding, aren't you JimbonX? Every topic seems to be add this, fix that, give us the other...

A-wing fix?!? No. Just No. The A-wing is fine as it is. It is one the finest tools in the Rebel-toolbox. Only 2 ships have an ept at pilot skill 3, the A-wing and JM5K. And the Green Sq. pilot is cheaper.

It gets even better!! The A-wing is the only ship capable of taking 2(!!!) Epts (one of the most coveted upgrades slots in the game).

The A-wing is fine - leave it be.

Rotating A-Wing lasers .. I'd welcome them as much as that hideous B-Wing Star Destroyer one shot killing laser thing we saw in Rebels, or a Wave 10 Suncrusher, or Palpatine's 3 eyed son crew, or Jaxxon the Jedi Rabbit crew card, Mount Sorrow, etc. Some things should be left to obscurity.

A-Wings are fine, they have a place, they see the table top and they serve a purpose. As my pappy always said "If it ain't broke .."

Ugh...the Suncrusher. I thought I had wiped that from memory. Perhaps the worst author in the Star Wars EU and probably the reason they got rid of the EU....

X-Wing: The Bacta War pg. 62. When Wedge and Tycho were discussing how they managed to buy up all of Rogue Squadrons old gear from before they went, well, rogue, Tycho explains how Incom is offering to modify A-wings to gain the ability to swivel their laser cannons to fire in the rear arc. First mention of A-wings with the ability in my memory.

X-Wing game isn't balanced. It needs a lot of fix. Every tournament you see Palp ace, aces, and 1-2 jumpmaster with 1-2 ships, sometimes Biggs/Wedge/Dash. Why do we often see them in play? Because other ships and pilots aint perfoming as they should. When was the last time a no named Punisher, E-Wing and T-65 pilot was used in a tournament?
