Is it okay to switch ships each match? Take Interceptor; you have gray, red and gray with red line. Is it okay to change a red with gray, gray with redline with red and so on. I'm thinking of having 5 interceptors ships with me but only use 3 of them - to confuse my opponent, who is Soontir?
Edited by JimbonXQuestion rules tournament.
Since you won't be facing the same player twice, I don't see that it would make any difference.
You mustn't try to confuse your opponent about which ship is actually which though. If you are flying Soontir then it needs to have the appropriate base card so your opponent can see which ship he is.
And it would be polite (though not required) if you have several interceptors in your list and several colours of model, to use the one that most accurately corresponds with the card in each case.
It's not against the rules to do what you suggest, but conversely, we're all here to compete on a fair playing field (I hope) and to find out whether our skill at list building and ship-flying eclipses our opponents', so this kind of tricksiness doesn't sit well with me..
So you're welcome to switch models if you want as long as they're all obviously interceptor minis, but don't be a jerk about it.

Edit: as to the OP, I think you're more likely to confuse yourself with the switching than anyone else as your models/pilots will be the same for them throughout the match but different for you.

I'm saying if you're running Soontir and Carnor in a red and a striped model, I'd be a little irked if you made Soontir the red one and Carnor the striped one. A lot of people would get a lot more pissed than I would.
You're welcome to do it if you want, but doing it expressly for the purposes of confusing your opponents strikes me as a jerk move. Not against the rules, just rude.
Totally OK. People will think you're a total ****, and rightly so, but if you're OK with that then yeah, it's totally OK.
If your opponent is confused by the colour of the ships and doesn't look at the actual name card then they deserve everything coming at them. Saying that, this is one of the most underhanded, stupidest ideas I have heard so far. Git Gud at flying instead of thinking of silly ways to deceive your opponent.
I don't play in tournaments but I think using identical models is a bigger ****** move. Would my goal be for desception that is the road I would take. Named Tie gangs are a beautiful example of this, which is howl runner? Third from the left back half, you see wampa you went too far.

In my views the key element in whether it's a ****** move is motive. The way I see it, if you're flying an identical swarm because it's all you've got, that's not a ****** move; if you could differentiate but choose not to because it wouldn't look right to you (Howlrunner does just look like another TIE doesn't she?) then I can see why other people might call that a ****** move, but I wouldn't; if you do it deliberately to trick your opponent, that's a ****** move.
If the color of your opponents Ships is confusing to you that is your problem not theirs.
Are the base plates correct? Ship type matching the base plate? Duplicates clearly marked? Opponents ships lacking any swastikas? If yes then you have zero grounds to complain about anything in regards to the paint scheme of your opponents ships.
If the base plates are correct, you're fine. People can use custom painted ships, identical ships, alternate paint scheme ships, what difference does it make? And if you decide to fly Soont in the striped ship, not the red one, go for it. Especially since I thought that was the one he flew anyhow.
Like thespaceinvader said above, if your opponent is looking to test skills at list-building and ship-flying, I would think a key component would be to pay attention to ship *placement*. You know, that whole PS order thing at the very beginning. When Soont drops at PS 9 in a different paint scheme than you expect him to, they should pay attention to that detail. Something a skilled player would do.
Dood, I'm glad I'm not fielding my neon green squints, that will confuse the GONKING heck outta all those newbies. Especially with the orange bases.
No.

Fel can be flying a god **** potato for all I care. So long as I know it's fel that's all I need to know
Edited by Krynn007Don't people's know that the ship model is the least required piece in this game? Cardboard on a stick would serve the same purpose. It just wouldn't be as cool.
