[Scum] Attempting mindlink

By BleakSquadron, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So it's fun season for "competitive" x-wing now that regionals in my area are finished and I figure there is no better time to try some new (to me) mechanics out in play. I was skeptical of mindlink at first but the idea of it has grown on me, here's what I am going to give a shot:

Herd mentality:

Manaroo (34)

-mindlink

-feedback array

-unhinged astromech

-k4 security droid

Palob Goldahli (33)

-mindlink

-cloaking device

-twin-laser turret

-greedo

-moldy crow

Talonbane cobra (33)

-engine upgrade

-mindlink

Manaroo makes this "archetype" possible in my opinion. Having her to feed extra actions to where they are most needed seems really powerful. She won't put out massive damage, but she will make large amounts possible. She can block and do most of her work still so feedback array seems like an auto-include. Mindlink is of course a necessity. K4 gives his target lock away without me having to use my action for it, and unhinged makes it even easier to get the free locks to pass out.

I like the interaction of greedo with a tlt, feels alot like vader crew from my home faction. I think stealth device isn't a requirement but it gives the otherwise ponderous hawk a movement trick, and makes it a tedious target (sometimes). Moldy crow feels like it needs to be here, I would hate to waste my opponents focus tokens, they worked hard for me to have them. Tlt is just the obvious turret option, I could blaster turret but why?

Talonbane is the defacto hammer. I will try my hardest to keep him around till it would be best for him to clean up. He can use engine upgrade to position so that manaroo can hand him a fully modified shot (hopefully at range one with those 5 juicy dice). Even still he will have focus to aid his defense, so glitterstim would be redundant here. I think guri could possibly do better here but I don't have a starviper (gave all my autothruster-less copies to my buddy who mains Scum).

What improvements could be made here? I'm sure at this point several of you are gurus in the art of the mindlink and I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

Lol. I feel you are overkilling the mindlink. Typical mindlink list feature Manaroo OR Palob OR Guri, not all three, as you don't get extra credit for focus generation on the link.

I like the idea of the mindlink with Manaroo and Talonbane, although I prefer Talonbane with the cloak and Engine Upgrade to help with positioning. And Palob without Cloak is a fairly easy target. So I would go with the Manaroo and Talonbane combo if you want to keep that part of the list.

However, I love Palob, and I especially love your setup with Greedo on Palob. Can I suggest a different list?

With this, you can maximize those HLCs, and you can lay some hurt with Greedo. You only have 4 shields, so I would play a little more defensively until you turn the tide in your favor. You're all 5 PS, so you can adjust movement order, and you can make sure someone activates the mindlink if you don't think Palob will be able to grab it from someone (Kaa'to is great for this). The HLCs are awesome for damage, and with Greedo, they don't care about losing the crits. Kaa'to is honestly just a good ship to get in the mix and wreak havoc. I'd love to see if you wanted to have a run at it.

I definitely like the idea. The m3's fly like tie fighters only with bigger guns and are frail for their points, but it sounds like great fun. Which that's the point of this for me. I'll give it a go, maybe on the same night as my own variant. May drop palob in my list for... something.

He just feels like good insurance, and I like greedo+tlt. By insurance I mean in the (very) rare case that we're stressed and need to stay that way (white maneuvers for the best positions etc), at least then I could still steal a focus and pass manaroo's to whoever was in the most trouble (for total 2 focus and one on everyone else, cept palob-- he should have a stack, while stressed, again I get that the circumstance would be extremely rare).

I won a Lot of games with a lidt very similar. I used Guri with thrusters instead of Talonbane. I found her more survivable, and her ability is just great with mindlink.

I was thinking so. Guri has that magical 3 agillity stat after all. The jump in survivability from 4 hull, 1 shield, 2 agillity to having 3 instead (not to mention autothrusters) is a big deal. Still though, no viper to fly sadly. Cobra will have to earn his keep.

Your definitely don't need moldy crow in Palob. I ran it a few times on this list and, there's just no way to spend all that focus. With Manaroo, Palob has a chance to get up to three focus each turn.

I've been running Tensarri Point vets, but only with mindlink in my list. They are surprisingly efficient with mindlink on, and do more than their fare share of damage. I won one game with a point vet. My opponent had a tie fighter and I had one vet left. We moved, I barrel rolled out of his arc, And shot the tie fighter up at range one.

I've been running anti pursuit lasers on Manaroo, otherwise, same kit out.

On Palob, isn't Greedo a big risk? He's only got one shield, so crits get to hurting him real fast.

Good luck with attaini mindlink. I think it's a great card that creates a lot of competitively fun shenanigans, and I sure do love my shenanigans. Here's my current build out:

JumpMaster 5000: · Manaroo (27)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

· Dengar (3)

-- TOTAL ------- 100/100p. --

I've gone 5 and 1, so far with this list.

I'm playing with a Dengar Xizor list right now. "Who ya gonna shoot?"

Manaroo (34)

-mindlink

-feedback array

-unhinged astromech

-k4 security droid

Palob Goldahli (33)

-mindlink

-cloaking device

-twin-laser turret

-greedo

-moldy crow

Talonbane cobra (33)

-engine upgrade

-mindlink

Its not a bad list at all. I've used almost the same thing, although my Palob build was different.

I tried both anti-pursuit lasers and feedback array and I am still on the fence as to which is better.

For Palob, I used blaster turret instead of TLT, and changed the cloak device into engine upgrade.

I also used intel agent instead of Greedo. Even if you don't like the turret change, I strongly suggest going with intel agent. Without it, you will have a hard time beating high PS positional aces.

Intelligence agent could prove useful, I'll definitely try it. I also like the idea of the tansarii point vets running around.

I like the Idea of:

Manaroo (35)

-mindlink

-k4

-unhinged astro

-feedback array

-tactical jammer

Talonbane cobra (31)

-mindlink

-cloaking device

Tansarii Vet (18)

-mindlink

Kaa'to Leachos (16)

-mindlink

I'd prefer a second m3 but for points for manaroo I can settle for leachos. I also love 4 ship squadrons.
