[LIST] Defenders "Jukes of Hazard"

By Imperial Mike, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Thoughts on the viablity of this?

- x2 Glaive Defenders: Tie/x7 Title + Tie Mk II + Juke

- Omega Leader: Comms realy + Stealth Device + Juke.

Played a few games with the D's running Juke and it's just sooooo good for pushing damage through.

Thinking I've adding OML to run the flanks and be a end game threat. If they go for the Glaives, OML is there and vice versa.

I have a Jukes of Hazard list already ... its a bit different to yours

You may look at bumping one of the Glaives to Vessery. You don't really need the init bid, and Vessery and OL are like two peas in a pod.

Other than that, looks good to me.

I think the initiative bid is actually important. There's lots of PS 8 ships out there, and Omega Leader moving last is extremely helpful. It will also be very helpful when going up against IG88s and the deluge of other PS6 defenders that are about to shake up the meta...

Although I don't think that Omega Leader is ultimately the best choice for a juking defender list. Personally I would much prefer to see Carnor Jax in that spot, since he not only powers up the Juke, but provides a better counter to the popular builds of the moment than OML (not to mention, he does better damage).

Carnor was my other thought as well - the only issue is that he needs to get into R1 to be effective. I'd like to try him as a flanker, keeping him out of the fray in the first few turns then sending him in once the Defenders have softened the enemy up a bit.

My other thought was:

- x2 Glaive: Juke + MkII + x7

- Carnor: Juke + AT

Or:

- Vessery: VI + MkII + x7

- Gaive: Juke + MkII + x7

- OML: Juke + Comms Relay + SD

Lot's of possible combos worth playing with - hear Vess and OML worth together, tag teaming target locks.

And I think your right about the initiative bid. Last squad is 99pts. Could be 96 if I drop SD for a big iniative bid.

Yep, I'm playing around with a x2 Defender and Bomber list as well - Tomax is also nice with Prot torps and his ability (i.e pairing it with Crackshot). I'll give the shuttle a try as well!

I faced the following yesterday:

Ryad (Juke, x7 title, Stealth Device)

Glaive (Juke, x7 title)

Omega Leader (Juke, Comm Relay, Stealth Device)

100 points

Very annoying build... all I could do before losing my last ship was take the Glaive down to 1 hull and remove 2 shields from Ryad (and of course her Stealth Device finally, near the end, after multiple unsuccessful attempts). I didn't even do all of the damage to the Glaive myself... it took one hit from an asteroid!

All I read is that OL is very important for Vessery. So if OL is out... the combo fails?

From the other topic on Glaives x7:

My first thought was Carnor with a couple of Juking Glaives. He's not necessary for them to trigger as people have stated but he's just so **** annoying plus the added benefit of not be able to use the evade tokens. He makes people fly differently

Glaive Squadron Pilot (34)
Juke (2)
TIE/x7 (-2)

Glaive Squadron Pilot (34)
Juke (2)
TIE/x7 (-2)

Carnor Jax (26)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)

Total: 99

shame you cant get a fully kitted out Carnor. Could add MKII engines on him but Int bid is prob worth it with all the 8s about.

Could always go down the VI Carnor route too but that requires skill I don't have :D

I've been having fun and doing ok with:

Vessery (Juke, x7, Stealth Device)

Glaive (Predator, x7, TIE mk2)

Omega Leader (Juke, Comm Relay)

100pts

I've considered other options for Omega Leader but so far haven't really liked any. Dropping mk. 2 and Stealth Device and putting Juke on the Glaive is enough to fit the Inquisitor. Could also drop OL and Stealth for a Delta Squadron x7 and have points to put TIE mk 2 on 2 of the 3 defenders, or make the Glaive EPT Juke and have mk 2 on all 3 defenders. Gives more flexibility in using the 1 and 2 hard turns that way, and the Delta can be a blocker.

The one problem with running Carnor Jax in a 3 ship list that has Vessery is that if your other target lock buddy for Vessery dies, then Jax can't feed Vessery target locks. Also, high point cost Interceptors are not the ships you want to try to play on the cheap. You almost always want to find the points to play them with Stealth Device/auto-thrusters, or else think about another ship to put in for those points since they are very, very fragile without both of those upgrades on them.

I Like this, but I went a tad different with Carnor. I gave him crack, title, SD, and AT. Other than that, same list. Thoughts on the changes? I went for survivabilty over actions.

You may try Adaptability or Vet Instincts instead. Push Carnor to a 10, or 9 and get a small init bid. Crack is good, but I think he will do better with higher PS just to ensure you get your positioning.

Push the Limit allows two actions per turn which is ultimately going to protect him much better than the extra green die from stealth device (besides, stealth will not protect from damage very well without being able to stack two tokens). Push the limit is the best choice on Carnor Jax imho. Push the limit also makes it easier to get into a flanking position outside of any arcs (where Jax wants to be).

I wasn't really suggesting running Carnor with Vessery. I was actually insinuating the very list that JamieSpace posted above (but I didn't make that clear).

I have flown a few games on vassal with various iterations of defenders, and am currently settling on:

Vessery + Juke + x7 + Mk2

Glaive + Juke + x7 + Mk2

Omicron Group Pilot + Palpatine

Because, Palpatine is always the right answer. :P

The list I'm currently considering is:

Rexler + Juke + x7

Maarek + Juke + x7

Omega + Juke + Comms relay

It has a 2 point bid, so I could put MkII on both defenders. Having only barrel rolls limits the arc dodging capacity, but nerfing the opponent's inquisitor's may be worth it.

I've not ran it yet, but playing against my son who was running Ryad and 2 Glaives was also inspiring. This list is higher PS, has potential for hilarity through crits and has Omega for control.

Curious, why not Ryad in place of the Glaives? Is the + 1 PS that important at the cost of an amazing ability?

Ryad can work fine too, I was just trying out the flexibility of all PS6 so you can reveal the dials in either order. Tonight I'm going to try just Vessery with Juke:

Vessery + x7/Juke

Ryad + x7/PtL/Mk2

OGP + Palp

To be honest without ptl you're not getting much more survivability than the build he posted, sure you're getting a green die but you're losing on focus+evade and 3 dice+focus+evade is more or less equal to 4 dice+any of the tokens and you risk a lot since the first bad dice roll will strip that extra green die off.

How about this?

Vessery (35) with TIE/x7 (-2) and Juke (2)

Ryad (34) with TIE/x7 (-2) and Juke (2)

Carnor (26) with Royal Guard TIE (0), Autothrusters (2), Targeting Computer (2) and Crack Shot (1)

Targeting Computer lets Carnor still help with Vessery, and boosts his offensive potential. Crack Shot could just as easily be Adaptability and an initiative bid. Hadn't seen anyone suggest this so I wanted to throw it out there; the PTL version might still be better.

Ryad can work fine too, I was just trying out the flexibility of all PS6 so you can reveal the dials in either order. Tonight I'm going to try just Vessery with Juke:

Vessery + x7/Juke

Ryad + x7/PtL/Mk2

I tried Ryad, she's good - but the Glaive with the Juke has that little more punch.

Need to fly her more.
