D2e Companion Card Viewer

By any2cards, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

There are more relics:

Boneborn Bow

Forewarned Ring

Azathea's Triumph

Band of Foresight

Sigh. Arrrrggggghhhh. Sigh.

Today is really not my day. Believe it or not, I actually had entered all of the Relics, but somehow, I must have fat fingered and wipe out all of the info other than a single entry of Robes Of The Last.

Once again, thank you much for pointing this out. I have edited my post above.

I think I should just go back to bed and wait for tomorrow.

Sorry for the uneeded reply, already got my answer.

Ty for the great job Any2cards!

Is there or will there be a feature to add sites to the list?

The extension does not permit a dynamic addition/modification of sites supported.

If there is a site that you would like added, I will certainly consider doing so. I have been asked for two other sites to be added in the past, and since they are widely used, I did so immediately.

Please let me know what you want added.

I wanted to do a master card list on a simple html page, and pull up photos using your extension. I don't think it will work any other way unless I program it myself. ;/

I would guess that there would be others that may be interested in a web site that provided a list of all cards that exist within D2e.

If you create such a site, and it is a site the public can access, and it uses normal URLs to access it, I don't see why I couldn't add your site to the list.

Let me know if you created such a website.

Sadly, I know basic html and that's all. :( I wouldn't be surprised if this made it's way on to the wikia.

I just read the couple of latest posts and couldn't help reacting to it.

I am currently very confused, as I look upon obvious community requests for developing fan-base content (game aids), and at the same time considering (and respecting, or at least trying to understand) radically opposed FFG/Asmodee's policy for not publishing material of that kind. However, no policy has currently been expressed regarding the presence of existing sites/tools/aid/etc. or what should happen to them, and by extension the use of these for new aids/tools (new UIs, but same data as before). The question is where the line is, however I am certainly NOT going to ask FFG legal dept. again for full policy details, as it will only result in further draging their attention towards us and put existing content at risk.

Then sure, if people want to go ahead and share new tools, that's great for us, and I hope none of this really interferes with the policy in a way that would be detrimental to the author or even the users. For my part I´m not sure if the risk would be worth it at all? Sad to say, it's only a game, however getting a legal notice can be serious business.

But yeah, if people are looking for a way to access any2cards' cards information in a centralized UI, I do have one tool for it currently. I actually have a second tool as well, with only some of the cards (Overlord-related). For the reasons stated above, I have been keeping these to myself, but if the legal landscape changes anytime, or if I manage to get clearance then these tools would be at community disposal instantly.

On a completely unrelated topic, any2cards: I think (however entirely up to you, obviously) you should use "Seer Kel" for the non-CK version of the hero mage of the same name, and not the CK name. For me who doesn't have access to the CK (and have basically zero interest in it), I find a bit confusing to find a hero sheet referenced the way you did :)

CK users would still be able to find her against her CK name anyway?

I don't see how this would affect your extension? Sure, you wouldn't be able to display both her sheets next to each other since they would be keyed differently, but it still comes down to what the user used for text anyway? E.g. if ´m a CK user then I´ll type "Truthseer Kel", and if ´m not then "Seer Kel".

Not sure if there are more examples of that, I just came across this one as we started a new campaign and had to spend a good 10 minutes to find it on Github :D

Could I make a master list on FFG or BGG of all supported cards?

I am not sure what this is referring to, as Seer Kel is fully supported.

I am more referring to the file name of the image resource, which is called "Truthseer Kel" even for the non-CK version. I´m sure it's not a problem for your plugin, as the database would have it linked to the correct image file anyway, but for another application using your image resources that linkage is not as obvious :)

Obviously you don't need to care for that or if things are perfectly consistent outside the sphere of your application.

I noticed the expansion asks for permission in the following websites: FFG, BoardgameGeek and Reddit. I'd suggest an option menu that'd let you turn on/off the plugin on certain websites. I use Reddit seldom to talk about Descent. So having all "Nothing"s underlined with a Descent card can become boring pretty quick. Also, I dunno if you are already doing this, but restrict the activity to appropriate forums. Only on the Descent FFG and BGG boards for example.

Great plugin by the way. =)

I apologize for taking so long to respond to the following comments. I actually never saw them, and the thread was not highlighted for me as having changed. Not sure why.

Nice catch ! That was not intended, and I had no idea that the non-ck version's image used the same name. I have changed it to Seer Kel. Thanks.

First, thank you for the compliment. Second, currently, the extension does not implement any form of feature that allows me to interact with the user. I have received various other requests to provide some form of such interactivity, and I am playing around with the best way to do it. When I decide how to implement it, I will implement the ability to control what websites for which the extension works.

The second part of your request is far, far harder. 2 of the sites mentioned above (FFG, BGG), do not have the actual name of the forum embedded within their URL, so I cannot filter by it. I am reluctant to rely on the number currently assigned to the forum, as in FFG's case, it has actually changed in the past. Further, their sub-forum URLs change as well.

So, I am currently matching on something similar to "*://*.fantasyflightgames.com/*", which as a result, works for the entire website, rather than just the forum involved.

Reddit's is mapped to the following "*://*.reddit.com/r/JourneysInTheDark/*", which should prevent the extension from working anywhere else on the site.

Please ignore this post. I was testing some agents which weren't resolving properly on BGG.

I've noticed an annoying feature/bug where the position of the displayed image will cause the page scroll to jump to a different position. This causes the cursor to leave the text and the image to disappear. In most cases, you can just hover a second time.

However, it causes a big problem when the relevant text is toward the bottom of a page, as even after the jump, hovering again will cause a second scroll jump back to the original position. I've noticed this specifically on boardgamegeek, but it may be a problem elsewhere. Let's see...

Dark Might EDIT: Nope, no problem here. Check out web trap on this page )

Zaltyre ... I have seen the behavior you describe, especially on BGG. In fact, in following your battles with Sadgit, Bucco, and Felin, it happened to me frequently.

The weird thing is it doesn't ALWAYS happen. Even for some of the same exact links that had problems in the past. I have been trying to track down why this is happening for quite some time, as it has happened for me in the past.

So, I know of the problem, but I can't duplicate it 100% of the time. It is going to probably be a while for me to resolve this issue, as trying to prove a negative (that it no longer happens) simply isn't possible. :P

By the way, as a perfect example, the above link causes me no issues. And yes, I mean the underlined example on BGG of Web Trap. Oh, the irony ...

Very nice idea, and it works like a charm.

Weird. If it makes a difference, I'm viewing it in Chrome.

They just kicked my evil butt to the curb, by the way...

Yes, you have to be using Chrome ... the extension only works for Chrome. :P

My 2 cents :

I have also the problem but only when the scroolbar is at it's max ! one point less and the problem is not hapenning.
Probably something to do with the scrollbar testing when you are at the exact max and the link is displayed further than what's visible, indeed the tool tip div "pushes" the body to the down but with scrobbar at max the program tries to follow the page hence the "jump" ..

Edit : but by 'jumping" the mousse is no more over the link, the programs hides the tool tip comes back to the original place.. without the toolstip display.. repeat ! :(

Hope this helps to find the problem ;)

do you think we should have ffg put the rest of the ones they don't have in, into the system? I like any2cards idea but maybe we should have ffg fix the lackage of some of the popups?

I am not sure what you are asking here. I can state that my extension can, and will show every single card that exists across all expansions for D2e.

yes, i am sure that will happen, but what if we had ffg put all the rest of the monster/heroes on the site popup, like kobalds shows up(maybe not for my posts) but not some of the heroes.

i don't dought that you will have all of them on your site, but maybe we ask ffg to put more of them on the site. shield probably shows up but high mage quellen doesn't. all lutenits i am aware of show up but not all heroes. maybe have ffg make more of them popup?
