So, that difficult player...

This is a really cool idea by the way, and I wish you best of luck bringing it all together

I'm new here, so apologies if I'm speaking out of turn, but I've seen numerous threads you've posted asking about allowing things outside the FFG books, or imposing house rules and restrictions... if you're planning on putting this out on the internet for the world to see, I'd suggest keeping closer to the game as designed. You're providing a better representation of the product, and will avoid some measure of complaints about you and your group "doing it wrong".

Yup, out of turn.

The "out of the rules" questions I ask come from players. I always give them enough arguments to shut them up and make them follow the **** books, but sometimes it's not enough so I come here to get new arguments to throw at them.

That's basically what's been happening, it's not me at all.

Like the last argument was that one didn't think Piloting skills belonged in the AGI part of a character.

So my argument was, "Ok what's there to be gained from that conversation? Even if I did agree with you, which I don't, nothing would change. The rules still state that they are AGI skills and that's what we will use".

Shut him up pretty good this time.

I feel like it's worth mentioning that you *can* skip the unranked talents on a tree if you have them from another source. Since you don't get a benefit from taking an unranked talent twice, they don't make you pay for it twice.

For example, if you had Forager from the Seer tree, you could skip Forager on the top tier of Pathfinder (essentially taking it for 0 xp) and can immediately take Toughened on the second tier for 10 xp. This doesn't happen a often, but it does occasionally.

Totally unrelated, I agree with your player that piloting shouldn't be an Agi skill, and the 'what can you do about it' is just house rule it to use other attributes as you see fit.

I'm glad to hear that. It wasn't entirely clear to me... It seemed to me you were too willing to consider allowing them to mangle the intended game, given some sort of restriction... but perhaps it's less that you're overly permissive, and more that you're getting run ragged by the crew of folks you have lined up to play!

Might help to continue to remind them of the goal of the game sessions you're planning.

Yeah most of them never played this system.

It's two separate things: They're making two characters each.

One for the one shots we will be running to get used to the new rules;

And one for the campaign I will run for a live stream.

By the time we get into campaign mode, a lot will have settled and I'm pretty sure a lot of character concepts will change, and everyone will have accepted rules more.

I'm a by the book person, but at the same time I don't want to lose my player's motivation by not allowing them to do what they want with their characters (but of course, common sense plays a part so this is what brings discussions to the table).

But I ALWAYS favor rules. The one thing I'm allowing in these games, that's NOT in the book, is a kid character.

Heh, a real GM* runs their one-shots inside the narrative of their main campaign, and makes their results affect the course of the campaign itself!

I did that once...holy cow that was tough, but it was so worth it!

* This is entirely in jest; from what i gather, you sound like a great GM!

I want to avoid that, because since it's a live show and it'll be partially scripted, I need to try and avoid too many unpredictable events because of live cuts and other logistics things.

But, I foresee I will end up having to do that at least once or twice.

What I'm doing right now is writing the campaign with a storyline tree, giving different options for player possible actions in each episode, and having each option lead to a different subsequent episode.

This will add to the campaign's replay value for when I actually publish this campaign book (yup that's happening!)

Is there a name for this show/stream?

Nope. Agility is definitely the best attribute for piloting.Piloting is all about reaction and timing, not strength. That's agility. You may not be tumbling and jumping around, but, you do juke, make sudden turns, etc. trying to outmaneuver your opponent. That's Agility.

Not yet!!! I might name it after the campaign itself, but then once this campaign is over, it would no longe make sense. So I have to think it over some more.

I also have to think about what I'll be calling myself, probably just my real name and add a "GM" in there. So I might name the stream channel after my own "brand".

And it'll be in Portuguese because I'm in Brazil, but I'm looking into subtitling it in English. We'll see. I'd gladly do the whole thing in English but I can't, my players don't understand english that well and I am in Brazil so I should do it in the local language, hehe.

Agreed. I don't understand how can someone think piloting is NOT agi.
