Days until first Regional, no idea what to fly...

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

So do I run Payback, The List (which got renamed by my opponent, now it's Dengo and Scissors) which is a Dengar and Xizor list featuring Gonk and R5-P8 and go for the fun list? This one is actually pretty deadly if I fly it right...

I could bang out some Triple Aces ala Inquisitor, Omega Leader and Whisper. Try to dodge those U-Boats.

Or I could make use of my four Crackshot EPTs and 5 Ties and do some kind of mini-crack swarm.

Or maybe I could do something with Imp Vets? Like two Gamma Vets with DE and Homers and a Defender with someone like Marek Stele or something else maybe? Would two Bombers with ordnance be enough to make an impact? The cheapest they can go is 25 points for deadeye and homing missiles and GC, is 50 points enough for an escort? Is it enough for the alpha strike?

Fly what you feel comfortable with I know, but with so many options I feel a little flustered. Gotta start practicing on one or two lists now, not six!

Help me X-WIng General Discussion Subforum! You're my only hope.

Go with swarm.

Ships. From one of the three (five) factions. Between 2 and 8 of them, inclusive.

And don't forget the orange bases.

Actually, go Defenders for imps.

When in the tournament? Vets has to be out for 11 days before you can run it in any official tournament such as a Regional. If it fits within this time slot, if your comfortable with TIE defenders or TIE Bombers, I would try running something out of that.

Do something stupid. Two Glaive squadrons with x/7, VI or Crackshot and the 31 pt Inquisitor.
4 K-Turn all day to get Evades.

I am not sure but as far as I know is that Imperial Veterans are officially allowed after 11th of July

With the new ruling on Gonk, I would go with the first list. It is a list that may surprise some people getting you some wins. Dengar was a winner with the new FAQ, so get him out on the table.

We had our Regional in Québec City and Imperial Veterans were allowed.

Seems the twitter message about Regionals not being Premier Tier was taken as a ruling.

Tycho + Title + PTL + Daredevil + Autothrusters + Prockets + EI

Ello Asty + Lone Wolf + BB8 + Integrated Astromech

Sabine + PTL + Kanan crew

Might not win, but you'll have a good time.

flip a coin or roll dice to choose your list ;)

I do feel your pain, i have like a stack of plano containers of premade lists i enjoy and have a tough time choosing what i want to fly at times.

What you need to do is sit down with a squad builder and make your own crazy list. That's what I did with Alpha Fleet Officer, and I haven't looked back. It's fun to have a pet squad. That's when you learn that set up and maneuver selection are so important, because you run the same crazy list over and over.

P.S. Alpha Fleet Officer is 4 Alpha Squadron Pilot TIE interceptors with an Omicron Group Pilot carrying Fleet Officer, and other upgrades to taste.

That's good advice Parakitor and that's exactly how Payback/Dengo & Scissors was born.

One key item I forgot on that list when I ran it yesterday was the IDs on Denny. People always want GS on Denny for when he can use his ability, but I like Predator for that. IDs really help when you need to keep people in arc and I could have made a mess out of a Corran and Miranda list last night if I'd been able to pull an ID stoppie. Instead I tried to clear out and ended up losing Denny to a barrage of laser fire when he was unable to proc. Xizor was a harder sell because of the ATs vs Miranda, but I really needed Denny to produce more damage and that just didn't happen. We took the match to time and I lost on points, but Xizor stayed hard all game. In a previous match the list didn't even dip into the damage deck and Xizor never even lost a shield despite being focus fired all of round 1. Another previous match saw Xizor go down in a hail of ordnance, but then Denny was able to stay alive thanks to the hull upgrade and a thorough Gonking.

Also I will mention that the JM5K and StarViper have really complementary dials and when you fly these two pilots together at PS 9 you can pull some really awful tricks out.
