Force power upgrades

By baterax, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

So, looking at the power trees, I suddenly thought of something and I don't see it explained in the book.

I'll pick Move for this example.

The first Control upgrade, is linked to two different Range upgrades.

Does that mean a player needs BOTH range upgrades to be able to get that control one?

Like, this would mean that, if I was looking at the Bind power, to get Mastery they'd need to buy almost every other upgrade first since Mastery in this case is linked to three other upgrades.

No. Unlike when buying down to Signature Abilities from the bottom of the specialization tree, Force Powers do not require you to have all the links to an ability before you can take it. You just need to have a single line to follow in order to purchase a new upgrade.

So for Move, you can buy either of the two Range upgrades and then buy the "Hurl" control upgrade. With the Bind mastery, there are a lots of different ways to learn that technique!

Awesome. Thanks!

I've read the rules on buying talents and it only says that to take a power in any lower tier, it simply needs to be linked to one talent you already have. It does not need to link to every talent. For example. Under Ateru Striker, Saber Throw can be gotten if you already have Saber Swarm or Dedication. You don't need both. Likewise, Dedication can be gotten either by going down the far left column to Parry (25) and cutting over directly, or going doen the third column and cutting over at Saber Throw, in both cases bypassing all of the feats in the second column, or cutting over to the second column from the third at any point inbetween. For example. For the conversion of my D6/D20 character Korath, I took this path to get Dedication and Saber Throw:

Jump up>Ateru Technique>Reflect.Reflect>Hawkbat Swoop>Dedication>Saber Throw, before going back up to take Parry and Improved Parry. I didn't even bother with Saber Swarm.

Yes, that's what I said :) !

Although your confusion means I likely didn't say it in as clear as manner as I'd thought. My apologies.
