U-boat lovers calm down - Scouts are still monsters

By SmartCookie, in X-Wing

So,

regional in Malmö, Sweden yesterday with the new FAQ in place.

Most U-boat players switched from Agromech to Overclocked and the results didn't suffer.

Winner already had Overclocked in his squad and there were a total of four scum in the top 8 cut (all running at least one Scout).

I finished top 8 and all my losses came to dual or tripple Scout lists :(

(Lost to the winner in the swiss round, lost to Jacob who also finished top 8 in the last swiss round and lost to Victor who placed #1 after swiss).

Got my dice but still hate playing against Scouts, Agromech or Overclocked...

Here's the top eight:

Who had to tell poor Jens the new rule about TLT and Tactician?

Who had to tell poor Jens the new rule about TLT and Tactician?

Thomas, Jens, Pål, and I are from the same gaming group in Malmö/Lund in southern Sweden...

Guess this makes us the Mynock equivalent in Sweden

- shots fired and beef and drama expected from the rest of Sweden... ;)

I was just thinking that, lol. TLT Tac doesn't work quite so well anymore...

Seems to work exactly how he wanted.

Same at Norwich. 2 triple scouts in the semis, triple scouts with OCR4 won. The R4 Agromech nerf was good, but didn't address the core issue that Scouts are undercosted and/or have too many possible upgrades.

The two regionals since the R4 FAQ have had a wider diversity of lists than before. Probably too soon to tell but I think it was just enough of a nerf to restore balance for particularly Rebel lists.

I don't think that's true. Just looking at some of the other recent tournament results there doesn't seem to be much difference in the diversity of lists making the cut.

I agree....my uneducated opinion is the nerf wasn't a nerf, but a diversion.

It's akin to a business owner having issues with controlling AC costs as some employees complain and change the settings on the thermostat, causing a few employees to become cold and driving the HVAC cost to increase. So the business owner installs a new thermostat in a unseen location and disconnects the control of the visible one to the cooling unit. His hope is the complaining employees alter the settings and feel cooler due to their outward control and the employees that wanted what the owner did are warmer due to the actual temperature being so.

It's diversionary tactics.

Except it isn't diversionary because that'd be implying ffg did this primaryily to placate players with false hope

As opposed to...cleaning up their rules?

...maybe and perhaps. It's all about your perspective.

Seems an unnecessaryily cynical perspective to have

Like nearly tinfoil hat wearing

It's not only cynical, it's just pretty silly.

That "diversion" only works on people that aren't paying attention. I mean there are definitely a few of them, and they have been screaming loudly on the forums since the FAQ dropped. But given that people are pointing out the fallacies in their statements pretty much immediately, it doesn't get anywhere.

Then you also have to contend that if FFG meant this as a "diversion" it be one to last about 6 seconds. I mean the next big event, which in this case was the next day, and boom the cover is blown.

So really that's the line of thought you are going with?

except that now you can get all-blank and fail miserably at Uboating

The odds of that happening are exactly the same as the old R4 agromech TL failing. 25% chance of each die being unproductive.

You're no more likely to fail at U-boating than you were before.

We're not mad because we think U-Boats aren't good any more. They are still good. We're mad because Palp Aces is even worse for the game and it's been untouched.

We also get mad when a bunch of greedy Imperial players start telling us how undercosted ships with upgrade combinations that are too powerful are ruining the game.

Nerfing Scouts will bring Rebels back.

With Rebels back Imp Aces will face counters in form of stress lists, regening Corran/Poe which Imp Aces hate as they need to attack, run away, and come back again - giving the Rebel ace a chance to regenerate.

You mean with the tactician TLT nerf, and by allowing rebel players to similarly ruin the game with regen NPE bull? Rebel regen was just as bad for the game as Palp Aces is.

Scouts were good for the game. If Palp Aces is nerfed, the meta will get much more diverse and less NPE based.
