Using Characters From TFA in other RPGs

By DarthFalkenMercilus, in The Force Awakens Beginner Game

So, on the description page for The Force Awakens Beginner Game, it specifies that while they have no intent on making a CRB or GM book for this RPG line, it says that you will be able to take characters from this game and use them in their other trilogy of games: EoE, AoE, and F&D. But I don't see how that could be possible, seeing as this game is set in a totally different timeline and setting, from what I understand. Unless, I suppose, you delve into your characters' past.

Am I missing something here/looking at this the wrong way, or does everyone else see this as being a dead-end sort of game that won't really be worth it in the long run?

Is it just me or will the downloadable characters be the ones using the rules from the Force & Destiny core rulebook?

If they're involving all three then this should be the case, but will this beginner game involve all three or include sub plots to involve all three but keep the main adventure separate to insure its something people will want to play?

You can use any of the core rules to play in any timeline or setting you want. There are no specific rules around timeline or setting, there's only fluff text...and even a lot of the fluff text is generic. And they're really all the same game, so of course you can use those pregen characters. The pregens take a couple of shortcuts (e.g.: there will probably be only one "Knowledge" skill instead of seven) so you'll want the full rules to recreate them properly, but it only takes about 10 minutes to do.

If the characters have careers from Force and Destiny you'll probably want that core book, but there's no reason they couldn't branch into other careers from the other books.

Has anyone partcipated in a game where characters from multiple cores were incorporated? After a recent introduction to Force & Destiny, it seems there might be real issues keeping a party together with such different motivators. The movies seemed to do fine mixing all three, but writing a script where things work is a lot different than getting multiple players to stay together long term...

My players have AoR characters, but it's more of an EotE setting verging on an F&D setting.

But really, people make way too big a deal over separating the different product lines. The only differentiation is Obligation, Duty, and Morality, and frankly I could care less about them. They are useful for chargen, but then do whatever you want. You are not constrained. Sure, a Smuggler might not care about the Force or the Rebellion, but he's probably willing to pilot them around and make a little money on the side. Sure the Guardian might not be motivated by money, but somebody has to haul his Force-wielding butt around, so he helps the Smuggler avoid "Imperial entanglements" hauling medical supplies in exchange for passage...

Several, both on-going games and pick-up/con games.

And there really hasn't been any issues, as FFG did a bang-up job of keeping the three product lines relatively balanced compared to one another. So you can easily have a mix of PCs built using EotE, AoR, and FaD careers and specs, and have the game still work quite well.

This is great news.

It was covered in a great Order 66 episode about mixing the 3 mechanics.

Basically, run at most 2 of the 3 at any one time.

My Party all have individual duty. They also have a small group bounty obligation from the ship they aquired. And my one force sensitive also has morality, but only for the balance of the Force perspective, it doesn't go on the table to roll for activation.
