I was just wondering if they used the new FAQ this weekend and how it all went
What happened to the UK tournament this weekend
The new FAQ was used and it was really well run tournament.
Top 8 cut because there was 58 players.
Top 8 was:
1 Palp Aces
1 Brobots
3 triple jumps
2 other scum lists
The torpedo boat jumps just ran Overclocked instead. Possibly made them better as it gave the winner an even bigger initiative bid (getting the advantage against other Uboats) and allowed others to put crew onboard.
Everyone got the Hera alt art card and then everyone got something extra from a raffle. I got the imperial gunner card which was nice.
They streamed the event on twitch - AthenaGamesUK
I was at Athena and thought it all went rather well. I won't lie it was a bit nerve wracking what with many of us having to re-write our lists the night before and the judges needing to learn a whole set of rulings very quickly, nearly put me off attending. On the day however everyone was wonderful, I saw little to no conflict generated by the new FAQ rulings of which surprisingly few people were unaware considering the short notice. All in all it rather exceeded my expectations.
Norwich's Athena Games regional was excellent, despite the FAQ change. I suspect some people dropped out given the short notice but everyone who turned up seemed to have adapted OK.
From a meta point of view the R4 nerf doesn't appear to have affected the Jumpmaster's dominance in any way - most simply swapped it for an Overclocked and kept on going. Whether this will continue, or people will start to take advantage of the new constraints, isn't yet clear. As you'd expect, the Jumpmaster players had to adapt, while others hadn't yet had the opportunity to consider how to take advantage of the Overclocked's stress.
