How often do 1st player pick Advance gunnery?

By Kiwi Rat, in Star Wars: Armada

With the increasing amount of frontal or Side armaments on the major capital ships in Armada.

How often do 1st player pick Advance gunnery?

Ad Ackbar into the mix will any 1st player in their right mind ever pick Advance Gunnery in preference of the "lesser harmfull" Defence or Navigation missions?

Would it not be better that the first player would pick in random one of the three missions offered up by the second player?

I'm just using the above as an argument that some mission are less (and less) likely to be picked by the first player.

And some missions, I have the impression of, are never offered up by the second player in the first place.

Which mean that out of 12 missions your are more likely to play often only 6-8 of them, while the remaining are very seldom played or not at all.

I've played 49 games at the writing of this post.

And not once have I ever played for one reason or another the three following missions:

Contested Outpost

Fire Lanes

Minefields

The first two I have shyed away from, to offer up as second player, as they have the End of Round thing, which in my view halts the game unnecessary, where you have to meassure up and do some accounting, before you can proceed to the next round.

So should FFG refresh the format in which we pick missions?

I.e. Should Second player offer up four missions? One the First player can see and read and three which are face down he has to randomly pick.

And should FFG offer up an additional 3,6,9 or 12 new missions, so there is even more to choose between?

So what are your thoughts on the subject?

Apparently when you click twice on the Post topic button, due to slow uploading of topic, the system post the same topic twice :D

I was going to answer, "less often than you post this question"

once

in their life

There are definitely times when the first player will want to pick Advanced Gunnery. The fact that the objective ship is worth double can, I feel, screw over some players who thought including it was a good idea. For example, if the first player has a DeMSU list, he might be confident that he can kill the objective ship before it can deal too much damage.

I've done it a few times... Especially when its Mon-Cal vs Mon Cal.

I'll take Gunnery Teams on my MonCal, when I drive it directly towards you with my Nebs, and force you to only get your two shots from your front arc, because you're blocked in...

It happens.

Personally, listing how many games you've played is completely irrelevant, when you also go on to say that there's a whole swath of missions you have not played at all.

Go play them. For Science.

Then come back and discuss variety.

If you bring it, I will pick it every time.

Advanced Gunnery as first player? Sure. Lots of ships can get the benefit, and a lot of players don't realize that you can still attack the same ship as long as you don't target the same hull zone.

If you haven't played Fire Lanes you need to do so. There are a lot of things payers can do from both sides of that objective to make their opponents' life hell.

I stopped including it for this reason... msu lists should really have no trouble staying out of your front arc, and giving demo our even admo the ability equals doom for you... even if you kill their demo, if they lol an isd, they are coming out way way on top... I think it's a big risk to take AG in this meta....

I do it all the time! Well. . . Only when playing DtO. . .

The reason is that I usually expect on losing 1-3 ships so because of that I want to make those points back. I pick Advanced Gunnery because second player is going put it on their biggest ship. That is what they want to do. I however with the advent of Wave 3 on the horizon, will just put it on a flotilla.

This allows me to come in, do my best to obliterate their objective ship and make up any losses in points.

I've taken it and won. I've never had anyone pick mine though. There's often a better choice in the other colors.
