Brobots nerfed into oblivion, IG-B + FCS wombo combo no longer possible

By ParaGoomba Slayer, in X-Wing

One thing that needed to be nerfed, /Brobots/.

The ability to turn a blank blank focus roll into 4 evades? Not broken.

The ability to miss with an HLC and get a target lock for your second shot so that it's actually ******* possible to hit a Palp Ace? Super broken.

This game needed a Palp Aces nerf, not a U-Boat nerf and an unnecessary nerf to Tactician and Brobots. Thanks Obama.

that's not what the faq says. IG-88B effect is not "perform this attack twice." It is a step 9 effect that allows you to attack again, after the step-8 effect (FCS) has already happened.

yeah i thought gunner-esque effects still worked

Gunner

Although we were able to work with it for a long time, we really needed to look deeper into how exactly “perform this attack twice” should function within the rules. Should it be treated similarly to these other “Gunner” abilities? Although possible, from a thematic perspective, the weapons that “perform [an] attack twice” represent a barrage of smaller attacks rather than a single volley, followed by another volley. So, although players go through the process of rolling attack and defense dice twice, we tested whether we could simply treat having done both attacks as having performed an attack once for the sake of triggering “after attacking” and “after defending” game effects. This changes the nature of a few different card combos, such as Twin Laser Turret with Tactician , but overall, the altering of a few interactions is worth the clarity gained.

By placing "Gunner" abilities and performing an attack twice on separate loops back through the timing structure, we also reduced the power of having initiative. By breaking down all abilities into separate windows, both players now have more opportunities for interaction and we’ve eliminated many protracted, hard-to-track effects.

Please re-read the FAQ.

Or have someone read it to you.

sigh

The only thing better than a silly rant, is a silly rant that is based on wrong info.

...and here's something which makes slightly more sense:

And the only thing more better than a silly rant is a silly rant based on wrong info with a random irrelevant political statement.

Other folks have also done a nice job of point in out how the FCS and Tactician nerf (which is onlily on the perform two attacks and NOT gunner) actually open up design space.

Now we can expect "perform this attack thrice" rules!

TRIPLE LASER TURRETS!

Hooray for taking a cursory glance at things and jumping to conclusions!

Reminds me of the time I created a thread about how the Falcon doesn't actually have a turret, and that it should have auxiliary arcs instead.

If we've got it wrong, what's the nerf to Brobots you're talking about?

I like things

gunner and other "perform primary attack" (or secondary in this case) effects are completely unaffected.

Vader and Tactician and Stressbot blah blah blah all still work with those abilities. They dont work with TLT/Clusters multi-attack. BIIIIIIG difference.

I think the only ability PERIOD that still does technically is Vessery, since his procs purely off rolling attack dice and nothing else on his end. Unless i missed a specific edit for him too. But, he cant take TLT and who the hell is going to put Clusters on him now that the titles are available anyway.

Brobots in top 8 at UK tournament this weekend post FAQ

Poor, poor redline. And I was just starting to get some mileage out of him with clusters and plasmas.

Oh well, back in the cupboard with the syck's you go my friend.

Yup, IG-88 is fine. Redline dun got hammered.

This is possibly not the best outcome, but I guess it means that TLT effects are less horrific in special abilities. Like Ruthlessness. TIE Agressors confirmed? ;)

... wait, does Ruthlessness count? "After an attack that hits" sounds similar to FCS in ability, at least.

I liked the part where people were expecting PGS to be adding value to the forums.

Ignore list feature is a great thing.
