Protecting the Flanks

By Iskander4000, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

By all means this is a work in progress, but here's what I've come up with so far....the two MC30s will stay on the flanks of the Battle Cruiser and only break off if there's a clear opportunity. All three ships will close in and slug it out.

Commander: General Madine

Assault Objective: Advanced Gunnery
Defense Objective: Fleet Ambush
Navigation Objective: Superior Positions

[ flagship ] MC80 Battle Cruiser (103 points)
- General Madine ( 30 points)
- Mon Karren ( 8 points)
- Engineering Captain ( 6 points)
- Gunnery Team ( 7 points)
- Medical Team ( 1 points)
- X17 Turbolasers ( 6 points)
- XX-9 Turbolasers ( 5 points)
- Leading Shots ( 4 points)
= 170 total ship cost

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63 points)
- Admonition ( 8 points)
- Walex Blissex ( 5 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 85 total ship cost

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63 points)
- Foresight ( 8 points)
- Lando Callriassian ( 4 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 84 total ship cost

2 YT-2400s ( 32 points)
1 A-Wing Squadron ( 11 points)
1 Tycho Celchu ( 16 points)

Already thinking that there may be too many points in the frigates...maybe I could lighten the load there and squeeze in a transport with repair mods.

Love the fleet design--it's very similar to what I'm looking at doing with the Liberty.

I'd drop Blistex, Foresight, and Mon Karran to pick up a GR-75 and increase your overall efficiency.

The increased survivability Blistex gives you on Admonition is pretty negligible most of the time--i find the token discard rate has me running out of tokens to dump right about when I run out of shields and hull anyway.

With Foresight, if you're charging in fast enough (which, with Madine, there's no reason you shouldn't be), you're going to take very few long-range shots before you're in close anyway; and with Lando, that one big shot you would be redirecting to both sides to survive will instead be rerolled to moderate damage, inviting the double redirect while also reducing their effectiveness for the next shot anyway. I think Foresight is one of those upgrades that is largely obviated by improving your tactics, at least for the torp.

That's 12 points. You can pick up a few more by dropping the YT-2400's to A-wings. You'll lose rogue, but gain enough points (+10!) that you can now afford that 18-point GR-75 and 5-point EHB to push them around anyway.

Finally, I think we're going to find XI7 and Mon Karran to be largely redundant in most scenarios--Mon Karran's biggest strength is freeing up that turbolaser slot for something else. I'd drop MK here to harden up your fleet a bit: spend the 8 points from Mon Karran on Endeavor and Repair Teams for your GR-75. Or, go for a little more indirect defense with Slicer Tools on the GR-75 and no title on the Liberty.

Oh, I'd swap Fleet Ambush for Hyperspace Assault. MC30's take care of business with that objective. FA in your list is a liability, imo.

All very good ideas. I think got too used to my MSU list which required both of my MC30s to get in close and soak up a bunch of damage and then get the kill, but with a battleship between them their role is somewhat diminished. And you're right about Nadine; with him I can better maneuver out of the way of dangerous arcs in the first place. I'll play around and see. Thanks for the advice!

Last thing I'd do as a matter of personal preference is to swap the engineering commander for a Nav commander. Nav synergizes better with Madine, and sometimes that extra maneuverability can give you more survivability than discarding 1 or 2 damage. Additionally, you could spam engineering and CF commands with this setup, while throwing repair crews onto that flotilla with Leia (maybe) can send a lot of engineering help your way.

I dunno overall. Seems like you don't have the activations to do well at 2nd or the bid to reliably go first. Give it a crack I guess but I won't be surprised if that's a problem.

I was thinking of spamming Nav commands and using the engineering guy to repair when needed, but that's my own personal playstyle.
