Rest in peace Redline

Fun and good are unrelated. Oicunn is bad. But he's the most fun to fly.

Oicun's ability is surprisingly relevant.

no, they're very much related probably

because "good" is such a vague, blanket term that it is essentially meaningless without further context

the word you're looking for is "competitive", which even then isn't terribly specific because Deathrain dominates in any area where there are almost as many palp aces as players

That ship was DOA to begin with.

Sorry, but thems the rubs.

Well you are wrong
No, that would be you.

Redline has never performed consistently well at premier events.

When did premier events become the sole measure for a ships effectiveness.

We can also add "fun" as a far more useful yardstick in far more circumstances than the minority of games fought for FFG coins and the like.

*throws blanket over New guy* just stay quiet and maybe vander won't find you.

Justice RAINS from above!

If you're not going to use words in the same context as everyone else then don't bother posting.

if by "everyone else", you mean the four dogs in the suit

in which case I hate to break it to you, but the internet is not made of just you

FUOA is a bit different than DOA

Deathrain ruins palp aces, for example, despite being overpriced. Makes him a meta call, but he can dominate an ace infested meta like he was a top tier pick

Please go and win a regional, Gencon, or world's with your dominating punishers and conner nets...oh wait they're garbage.

You know, Deathrain does dominate Palpaces, which makes him very good in some cases. However, on a big tournament you will never have enough certainty that there will only be those, making him too unreliable. Does that mean the ship is garbage? No. On a smaller scale it is able to win tournaments by itself. The Punisher will never be top tier, but it remains a potent tool for the right circumstance.

In what way does Deathrain ruin Palpaces?

Have you seen this happen or have any experience running him against Palpaces?

Curious as I love the Punishers and would like to play more of them( especially since Veterens) but I have only seen one punisher in a competitive setting since they were released 12 months ago.

freaking conners

palpatine does nothing when no dice are rolled; even palpatine can do very little when you remove thrusters + focus + evade

aces cannot arc dodge conners, as being at a lower PS is actually an advantage (you can overlap the template before they even get to activate)

deathrain is sadly overpriced, but he also has the easiest time hairballing conners onto aces. just drive up to them and

alternatively, you dump out conners such that they overlap the area immediately before the opponent's front pegs

12792172_10156557542855142_1088143190826

also works amazingly well v aggressors and rebel regenerators (due to no regenerating occurring either through r5-p9, no action step, or r2-d2, ie white ion move)

I don't think the FAQ changes kill Redline so much as Cluster Missiles on anything without Glitterstim, Accuracy Correctors, or maybe Rage if the platform had a way to mitigate the stress. Redline does at least have the means to modify both attacks, just not as consistently as before.

Regardless, Fire Control-equipped Redline is still one of the best platforms for the speciality munitions that lack innate dice mods (Plasma Torps, Ion Torps, Assault Missiles, ect.) and he might have gotten a new role as an ace hunter thanks to the Long Range Scanners from Vets. Load him out like you would a Gamma Vet with Homing Missiles and extra munitions. With that configuration, Redline can hit an ace with two fully modded (focus + lock) homing missile shots back-to-back without having to disengage to reacquire the lock since he will still have one. Not sure if any of the existing systems would be of help, so probably just keep him "cheap" if running as an ace/x7 hunter.

Long rang scanners and FCS is an anti-combo since you can't re-acquire the lock if they are closer than range 3

I know, but he doesn't need the Fire Control System with Homing Missiles. His ability alone allows for two fully modded shots in succession since he has two locks on the target and only needs to spend them for rerolls if needed. Getting locks early is far more useful in this case.

In comparison, a bomber can get a fully modded shot but will have to disengage to reacquire a lock if it wants to take a second shot or else will have to make do with limited dice modification if it has Deadeye to fire in place of a lock.

First question. How many times have you won a regional or at Gencon?

Second question. Why is it garbage if it's not played in a tournament?

There are far more casual players than competitive ones. Just because a ship is not considered to be top tier for competitive play doesn't mean it's garbage.

Yeah, to be fair the Punisher is garbage without getting into it's tournament stats.

(honestly I just have a hate on for the ship).

So lemme get this straight: The ability to fire off two attacks in a turn is useless because you only get free magic rerolls on one of them.

Wow. Just...Wow. I'll leave you guys alone, and continue enjoying the crap out of the TarLock Ness Monster.

I'm thankful that it only took less than a page for someone to finally say this, since I wasn't around to say it.

People who complain that you can't reroll both get no pity at all from me.

(I can't be the only one who thought this...)

Fun and good are unrelated.

I need to thank you. Your words were the final nail in the coffin of my desire to EVER enter a tournament, and as such, you've probably saved me quite a bit of money and stress.

Garbage? No.

Overpriced by 2-4 points? Yes.

And that's the problem: redline with FCS was basically using his special ability to get a 'free' predator-style effect on that second shot, and it was that which helped justify his price.

You know the grumbling you see around x-wings here? Same deal - the ship is fine. The price you pay for what you actually get... isn't. And once that price is wrong, it just hasn't the tricks (in redlines case, "any more"), to make that price back up.

This is sad.

Ummm sorry but punishers were dead on arrival...

YOU ARE DEAD ON ARIVAL

DON'T YOU INSULT MY BABIES LIKE THAT

Oh god, he has more than one of those abominations.

Wasn't there a thread recently where people argued that the Tournament scene was the most tolerant group of guys? All the attitude was the Casual players who demanded things? Here is a guy that wants a conversation about a ship he likes and it's 4 pages of people saying how the ship sucks and should never be used.

Your point? He can still bring the ship to the table, it was bad before, it is still bad. On the grand scale of things nothing changed.

And speaking of nothing changed, the topic was dead on arrival as well.

"Rest in Peace Redline" is either the invitation to troll or an attempt to troll.

I'll expect my cut in the mail.

I don't always fly a TIE Punisher.

But when I do, I AHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!1!!

Well, I have 4...

I've only got the one, and games where I field it are usually my favorites, even when I lose(which is more often than not). How much fun are multi-Punisher squads?

I'll expect my cut in the mail.

If I am honest, I have only used two at the same time maximum, because I really can't get myself to use the generics. Thats fun, though. Redline and Deathrain are both high priority targets for your opponent, so they make target priority difficult.

I am curious to try 3 with EM, Proton Bombs and Advanced Sensors, though. Then, with one of them beong repainted as First Order craft, I might have justified my purchase.
