Foam thickness for storage????

By clanofwolves, in Star Wars: Armada

I have a friend who has some pluck foam he's like to send me and was wondering what thickness I needed to fit what miniatures I plan to have day one. He's moving late tomorrow and is getting rid of some foam and has a friend or two there in TN that he'll give what I don't need but he wants me to just get what I need. I'm grateful. Problem is, I don't yet have the miniatures, or I'd measure them.

So I was wondering if you guys (the experts could tell me) what depth these are (can be on their sides too) and you can give me approx/round off:

Victory-Class Star Destroyer

CR90 Corellian Corvette
Imperial Raider
Nebulon-B Frigate

Large base (depth)

Medium base (depth)

Small base (depth)

Basic fighter 'stem/miniature' (height and width)

Imperial Class Star Destroyer (I may get it in the future, what am I saying, I will...)

Home One Frigate (I may get it in the future, what am I saying, I will...)

Thanks so much guys!!!!!

Throwing Numbers:

The ISD is the big boy of the party, thickness wise... At just a tad over 2 inches perpendicular thickness from bottom of Peg to top of Shield Generators...

(And I make that statement as you did not ask about the AFMK-II, but he really needs 2.5" foam unless you're disassembling)

Corvettes, Nebulons (on their side) and Raider all fit in half-inch foam.

Tad over an Inch Thickness for Home One.

Bases, all sizes, share the same thickness of about 18mm when disassembled.

"Average" Height for a Fighter Squadron is 60mm...

Problem is, the Firespray is taller than that, but I don't have one on hand.

Squadron Bases are 32mm circles.. But you'll have to add 5-6mm for the Activation slider.

Totally off topic, but you started talking about recommended thickness and I was reminded of Scotty's scene from Star Trek. =)

Very very helpful sir; thanks!!!

My buddy just called as I was calculating, and told me he is sending me the best thing he knows of that'll do what I need (that he has and doesn't need anymore) He's sending me a pre-made (very slightly used) Battlefoam insert for the Starter Box that he says will hold what I ordered easily. But he warned if I go down the rabbit hole of Armada, it will not expand, haha!!

If memory serves, an ISD doesn't actually fit in 2" of foam (although it's close) - I think you need 2.5" to have it in there without anything barely sticking out. I put mine in 4" which is what you need to fit the large bases on their side.

the smaller ships only need 1" or less with 1/2" to the lid of the box.( they don't need the space to the lid) I have the bigger ones in 2" with an 1" of space to the lid of the box.
