Soontir Nerf?

By Firespray-32, in X-Wing

What if Palpatine cost an epic point?

What if bank boost was made red?

What if FFG came out with a rule saying you weren't allowed to play Palp Aces. I could come up with a lot of things that are never going to happen.

don't worry

if they did, there'd always be triple aces to complain about ;)

This is an exciting FAQ because it means we are going to be stacking evades on otherwise-vulnerable ships at some future date. Gives them design space.

It just nerfs the mighty Ezra Bridger with PTL and Jan Ors, giving 2 Evade token per turn. A pity.

Furthermore, Lando plus Experimental Interface (and Jan Ors) in VCX not working anymore :(

The evade change makes no sense whatsoever. AFAIK, Rebels are the only faction affected by this. It seems specifically targeted Lando crew and Jan crew--two cards that didn't need a nerf.

When Imperial aces are running amok and Rebels are struggling, the best thing to do is remove some rebel-specific defenses, right?......Right?

The evade change tied to the change that stops spending multiple focus and target locks to modify the same rolls. It wasn't a targeted change to nerf Lando. The same rule that permitted spending multiple evades is what permitted the other.

Defensive Ghost builds just got a considerable buff through the Reinforced Deflectors change. The odds of it triggering on an attack to restore a shield just went way up now that crits count towards triggering it.

That's true, but the Ghost has neither EPTs nor pilot abilities built around offense. So to maximize the power of a 4 die primary, a possible turret, or even both in the same turn, the systems slot most often is the best bet.

If building defensively, Kanan is the best pilot. Recon Specialist (maybe 2) gives him extra focus tokens to subtract dice before they even do damage. Reinforced Deflectors could be good on him, but he likes Adv Sensors even more.

For Ghosts, offense really is the best defense. It'll die either way, but it's goal is to blow a hole through the heart of your opponent's list before it goes.

Yeah, my ghost build got hit pretty hard. Lando, Jan Ors, FCS + TLT, all got worse. I guess the Reinforced Deflectors made up for it? If I put a shuttle on it, then TLT gets better; so I got that going for me.

You misread my example.

1. Roll dice

2. Spend a focus (for its normal effect, convert eyeballs)

3. Gain tl from r4

4. Spend tl to reroll blanks

5. Soend second focus (for its normal effect, converting new eyeballs)

Its not using the first fovus for an ability like calculation

You can't spend a two focuses on the same attack. If you spend a focus to convert eyeballs, then gain TL from R4, reroll any blanks, you can't then spend another focus to change any new eyeballs.

Per R4 Agromech FAQ entry:
You may spend 1 focus token to change all <eyeball> results
to <hit> results only once during the "Modify Attack" dice
step. See "Spending Tokens" on page 5.

Oh yeah that makes Lando even less appealing lol. His only real draw was possible 2 evades on a ship that usually cant get'm at all and REALLY needs them.

Done it lol. And loved it. Cant anymore :(

It's like you are gambling when using Lando or something!

Is taking something that is categorically worse for the same price a gamble or simply just stupid? Lando was a questionable upgrade before but he's just straight up awful now.

Easily? Heck, I had to push people to even read the FAQs to begin with.

This is a strange thing to me. Everyone I play with endeavors to play the game by the rules and the FAQ is the rules as much as anything else.

People who only play casual and have no intention of tournament play could give a flip about faq's. I read them but unless I am playing a random dude at a store looking for tournament practice I largely leave it to my opponent what rules we follow, modify, ignore. I play for fun not glory.

Ok, then. Lando nerf.

Oh hell no, nobody puts Billy Dee in the corner.

Best thing on the interwebs I've seen in a while. Hobojebus wins the internet today.

He allowed low Agi ships to get 2 evades. If you wanted to gamble on the dice being kind to you. You obviously to not take my meaning in the vein it was intended. All this rying that the FAQ broke X Wing has bothered me a lot more than it should have. Maybe the people that are posting negatively about the new FAQ are the rules lawyers and the power gamers.

Or simply don't like the gamble nor aces.

The actual answer is many people complaining (particularly the vocal ones) about the FAQ don't understand the math behind the game, the rules of the game, or what was actually going on in the meta.

I think overall the FAQ was good. The attack flow chart was a very necessary thing. I think what has a lot of people riled up is that a lot of arbitrary things took hits whereas almost every powerful list archetype stayed the same or improved.

Rebel stress mechanics took a hit, as did their evade stacking. So did TIE Punishers and TIE Adv generics with the loss of FCS clusters. Tel Trevura got (ever so slightly) worse, while Dengar got markedly better.

Scouts took a bit of a hit, but not enough to decrease the power of the alpha strike and that's mostly what the list is about.

Imperial aces got noticeably better due to both the nerf to rebel stress and forcing scouts to take a droid that makes them easier to arc dodge. Valen Rudor, one of the least used Imperial aces, got slightly worse.

So the FAQ cleaned up the mechanics of the game, which is great, but the unintentional casualties hurt weak things and powered up powerful things for the most part.

I gotta laugh at people thinking the change to evades nerfed lando

I gotta laugh because it implies you'll ever roll two naked evades :P

Dice being Fickle, you'll probably roll them constantly post-FAQ.

As if I'd ever run Lando :P

...the entire reason I posted the example example was because someone asked why you would ever want to use 2 focuses for the same effect on one shot. I was posting an example of why you would do so before the new FAQ. Im perfectly aware it dosnt work anymore
