Rebel Veterans Announcement Day?

By evanger, in X-Wing

I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. Heroes of the Resistance is the Rebel Veterans pack. I think Scum is up next.

Heroes of the Resistance is Most Wanted. Why would an 'aces pack' fix two ships that need the least fixing?

I'm not seeing many YT-1300s in tournaments.

Also, two new Rebel crew and a new Astromech are always fun.

Well I think we as a community have driven people from the Millienium Falcon expansion. Following the large ship rule change, many abandoned the idea of "Fat Han", and I saw a many a post on here saying "just got the new TFA set, looking to play rebels, what's good?"

Many responses were:

Ace pack

E-wing

Outrider

Y-wing

Starviper (for auto thrusters, but only after either ace pack or A-wing single)

The Falcon got written off because no one wants to go to time and give up 30 points to there opponent. And new players were shied away from it because it wasn't "cool" to fly anymore with most of the community. (In fact, some people on here claim it still is over powered and unfair).

And competitively it had dominated for 2 years and I think everyone was tired of running it.

And the ghost is the current hotness, so there is that. But the ghost crew does breath some new life into the battered old YT-1300 (okay, just to clarify, NOT ORS, although Sabine/conner net on ORS is funny, to say the least.).

So either you view it as the tank who can't, or its the most hideous thing you've ever seen, and how dare someone fly it against your palp-aces build.

My prediction is the Rogue One tie-in expansion will be an X-wing and a U-wing, since outside of core sets we don't get ships from separate factions packed in together. There'll also be a standalone U-wing expansion, because Rogue One will give us too many potential Rebel crew cards for a single expansion.

Which means Rebel Veterans would be...E-wing and either Y-wing or Z-95? A-wing and B-wing were already in Rebel Aces, if X-wing is in a Rogue One tie-in it won't be in Veterans, and T-70 is in Heroes of the Resistance. I can definitely see Scum Aces coming first, though.

I feel the Heroes of the Resistence pack is the so called Vets pack for Rebels. Now listen to my explanation.

Well Poe got a PS upgrade. Han and Chewie are probably (Possibly) going to get new pilot abilities. Which in my opinion makes it the Vets box. Now this might not be what Rebels need. But I feel that it is what we are getting.

Now are we going to see a Scum (Vets) box? I am not so sure. I personally would like it of course. I would also love to see scum pilots for the 1300 and 2400 sort of like the Firespray in the Most Wanted box. But not holding my breath.

Clearly we haven't, since it is still one of the best sellers of X-wing. For very understandable reasons.

Rebel Veterans will be two E wings.

Rebel Veterans will be two E wings.

Sure, if FFG hated money.

I'm betting that instead of a Rebel Veterans set coming out soon, there will be a Rogue One set that is for Rebel players that might give a type of title for the Rebel (T-65) Xwing.

well, reason singular

that reason: it's the fraking millennium falcon

reason 2 could be that the model is ******* gorgeous, but that applies to basically everything FFG has produced for this game

To be fair, when Heroes was announced, before the new FAQ a few days ago, the Falcon was dead and the T70 was hurting bad. They're both now in a little better shape after the rules update.

But, to be fair, this isn't really a fix pack. There was never a rule that said a multi ship box had to be a fix pack, either. Heroes is the best thing they could have done from a sales point of view. The development cycle on the game is so long that this was really their last chance to throw in a new tie-in product before the Force Awakens hype train stalls. You can be disappointed if you want, but it is exactly what we all should have expected. And it will change the game a little. This set will add more options to the game, which is always good, and bring Rebels back to the meta, which players have been wanting.

It's not Rebel Veterans. It's not a fix pack, but it's exactly what it was always going to be. FFG sells licensed merchandise for the largest creative IP in the universe. They could not have made a better decision.

hotr isnt the rebel vets, it is however the out-of-wave release for rebels. I wouldnt expect anything for rebels for quite some time because of hotr. Probably the next box though.

I can't imagine FFG deciding not to capitalize on Rogue One hype by selling repainted X-wings.

Maybe

Awful lot of ground stuff from the trailers/magazine though

Tie striker (speeder)

Uwing (troop transport)

ATAT

Don't remember seeing many X's in the trailer :(

It's not a AT-AT, it's a AT-ATP.

Supposedly.

notice its always about fixing small ships. never had a large ship need/wanted for a fix. (cept the firespray, but most people want other things before that).

fix more small ships! Why? CUZ THEYRE NOT DESIGNED WELL.

I think you naied it on the head there, but rather than Smal ships not being designed ell, I think it has to do with that large ships are designed too we or rather they are in general too good.

Large ships move faster for the same movement numbers, which to me doesnt make sense when small ships in Star Wars are supposed to be the fastest, and also are supposed to be more maneuverable than large ones.

There are also several large ships with better agility (green dice) than multiple smalls, to me that doesnt make sense. Hell the Xwing which is supposed to be rather dodgy, has 2 dice, and its not enough a lot of the time(though you could say green dice in general are never enough in any number), but compare it to some large ships that are freighters and they have 2 green dice too?

Look at the jumpmaster, its dial is better than many small ship's dials (mostly going one way, but that doesnt stop it from being great), and it has more health, and has a turret, and a droid and crew slot.

to be fair, nothing in the pack that we can see even comes close to suggesting a large ship fix

there's, thankfully, nothing in the pact that promises to bring the yt-1300 screaming back into competitive play and there's a certain something in Wave 10 (Freaking Kylo) promising to smack those uppity pancakes permanently down to PS 0 if they dare show their faces on the table

only thing in there for large ships specifically is the burst of speed illicit SLAM, which has a HEFTY condition on it (SLAM? no shooting. Can't even get a SLAM shadowcaster to feedback :( ) and we don't know what other drawback they're coming with (just think crappy cloaking device)

just think of it as a T-70 pack with an added paperweight driving up the price

Why do you all think that HotR isn't the Rebel Veterans release? I dont think they've just randomly updated other any factions ships.

Sometimes you get things you think you need, sometimes you get things Disney thinks you need...

Mostly because it's not called Rebel Veterans. Why do you think we won't get a Heroes (or Villains?) of the First Order release?

Which ships are we looking for a Rebel Vetpack treatment anyway?

E- and X-Wing. Or if the X-Wing gets something from a Rogue One release, Maybe E- and Y-Wing.

Id love more pilots for the Ywing for both rebels and scum. The Ywing was such a staple warhorse yet is underrepresented in game.

Sorry but what was the "large ship rule change" somebody was talking about?

Which ships are we looking for a Rebel Vetpack treatment anyway?

E-wing desperately needs help for generics, x-wing's need a proper fix and y-wing's need some named pilots.

Because they have already got all of the First Order characters covered? (The ones they really can, at this point - smoke is just a hologram so far)

It doesn't have to be called Rebel Veterans to be what FFG could consider an equivalent release. In fact, the Rebels are getting a large base in theirs!

At least we hope Scum is next

For whatever it's worth, we don't have a Captain Phasma crew.

Also, if we have named First Order characters piloting the TIE/fo and /sf in Episode 8, that could be reason for a new First Order expansion containing them.

I'd be extremely disappointed if HotR was Rebel Vets.

The E-wing and the T-65 desperately need help, and the Y-wing and Z-95 could both use some more variety.

My vote is for the E-wing and T-65. (I mean at this point, even Corran could use some help). I also just really want Corran and Tycho in X-wings, and of course to get Ooryl.
