Ongoing Shadow of Nerekhall campaign: Session reports and strategy

By HavocDreams, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

A couple of weeks ago I started a Shadow of Nerekhall Play-by-Forum campaign over at BGG. Up to now we completed 3 encounters (intro, prey and the rat-thing king 1). I decided to write down detailed session reports including multiple maps per encounter, thoughts on strategy, summaries of discussions among the heroes and all actions performed each turn. I am planning to do this for the complete campaign (if I manage to find the time).

Here is a screen shot of what it looks like at the moment:

I think these reports might be interesting for people who are starting this campaign (as OL or heroes) or who just like deep strategizing. I am very interested in what people think about the decisions that were being made by OL and heroes (spoiler: heroes are getting steam-rolled atm). What are your experiences and (failed) strategies with those quests or SoN in general?

What can I do to further improve these and future reports to make them more enjoyable for readers?

Here are the links to existing reports:

1. A Demonstration
2. Prey
3. The Rat-Thing King, Encounter 1

Just want to mention that in the first post of 'A demonstration' the image of the 'map after setup' actually shows the map after the first turn, and not after setup.

Also on a sidenote:

Not sure why the campaign victories only add up to 9 entries where as the quest victories are 344. Campaign seems OL tilted overall and usually the finale wins means that one side was able to snowball a strong advantage throughout the campaign

I think, this reflects that most groups did not finish the campaign or played the normal or epic stand-alone quest variants. We also have to keep in mind that all the act 2 quests plus the the finale have less than 10 records each, whereas the intro has 98 of a total of 344 quests recorded. The statistics are therefore definitely loopsided here.

The quest victories are the results of all quests. From introduction, to interlude, to finale.

The campaign victories only counts the results of the finale quest(s) because that's the only quest that decides who actually wins the campaign.

Thanks for reporting that, corrected.
