Laptop requirements for X-wing vassal?

By Samurai33, in X-Wing

Hi all,

I want to start playing X-wing on vassal to get as much gaming in as possible. Since I travel a lot a laptop would be perferrable to use, so could anyone give me some inputs on what specs I need to have to have it run optimally, or tell me what you guys run it on? Then next stop is the store :)

Thanks in advance.

I think any laptop should be fine. It's a fairly small program with fairly simple graphics. I'd honestly be surprised if you could find a laptop that couldn't run it. Unless you were buying it off of www.oldcrappycomputers.com

That was my thinking too, but I just wanted to make sure. How about screen size? Would 15 inches be enough to get a good overview of the playing area?

When I started, I couldn't play it on my 17'' laptop screen - I had to use the dual monitors. But now I play it just fine on the 17''. I would imagine going smaller than that might require you to zoom in a bit on the actual play mat, but since you can "zoom to fit," you could make it work. As long as you don't have to stare at your list, there shouldn't be much of a problem with the rest of it, I keep about 2'' of my "hand" available for me to drag my dials into/out of each round.

A potato. That's basically all you need to process it.

You need a bunch of little windows open. It's very difficult on a laptop. It's one of the reasons I prefer Tabletop Simulator. Everything is on one screen.
