First Tournament

By kewlguy360, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey everyone, I'm going to my first tournament next week and i'm trying to determine what list to bring. I want to run palp aces, but don't have palpatine, so I've decided on a knock off aces.

Inquisitor (25)

Proton Rockets (3)

Push the limit (3)

Tie/v1 (1)

Autothrusters (2)

Omega Leader (21)

Juke (2)

Comm Relay (3)

Schimitar Squadron pilot (16)

Proton torpedoes (4)

Extra Munitions (2)

Guidance chips (0)

Epsilon Ace (17)

I put in epsilon ace, because of the ability and filler. PS 12 is pretty cool for an annoyance factor and for aces like whisper, although it is only 2 attack dice.Bomber is there for damage. Thoughts? Tournament Worthy?

If you like running aces you could drop the bomber and Epsilon and get Fel fully loaded and a stealth device on Omega Leader, or a Jax fully loaded and stealth on Omega leader. Probably a well loaded whisper you could fit in the 39 points you'd have to spare if you like running Phantoms too.

For your first tournament (says the person with all of 3 under my belt) it's more important to bring a list you enjoy and know inside and out than a list that's objectively more powerful. Especially if it's a long tournament. If you bring a list you never fly you'll be more likely to make mistakes with it, forget abilities, have trouble maneuvering it, and might end up more frustrated by the end.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely try out carnor, any advice on how to build carnor? Standard ptl, autothrusters, stealth? Or something else?

I would stick with PTL, Autothrusters, and Stealth for Carnor, interceptors are pretty fragile but with stealth device, a stack of tokens, and decent green dice they can hold up. Carnor especially is going to want to be at range 1 to trigger his ability and PTL gives you good repositioning to get into range 1 and dodge arcs.

I've also heard the idea of running VI on Carnor and having him at PS 10 where he is especially nasty against other fragile aces like Soontir, but you're giving up 2 actions with him so you have less positioning and token stacking. Plus with this list they all move and shoot at PS 8 which can let you change up the maneuvering or shooting order round by round to whatever is advantageous for you.

For something completely different if you have Imperial Veterans a PS 8 Vessery(VI, x7 title, stealth device) is 37 points and a PS 6 Vessery (Juke, x7 title, stealth device) is 38 points You could also drop Stealth Device for TIE mk 2 for green banks. You need 2 Juke cards to run the PS 6 Vessery but he's pretty nasty with his ability and Juke, and x7 title plus his shields and hull make him pretty good at taking a couple hits and surviving, especially if you can hang on to Stealth Device.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hey if you dont mind please let us know how you did. Good luck and Fly well ;)

Since it was a small turn out, we did a round robin with each other. Carnor Jax is so good, now that i play with him... at critical times, he prevented token spending. We only played 3 games, and i luckily won all of them, taking 1st place because of MoV. Thanks again for the feedback!

Congrats on winning your first tournament; that's definitely something to brag about. As a post-tournament suggestion:

Swap out the proton torpedoes to homing missiles; you'll receive an enormous increase in offensive output and become a real threat to Soonti Fel and other aces for one point. Since it was a small tournament you probably haven't seen some of the standard lists:

1. Triple Jumpmaster 5000s. This is a serious threat to your list, as the alpha strike is truly brutal. If you can use the proton rickets, homing missile and TIE/FO shots to bring down a jumpmaster before it shoots (a not unreasonable feat) you have a very good shot at winning. The key is to make the opening exchange happen at range 1, so think about how you'll do it.

2. Palp Aces. Excluding Epsilon Ace (who's a harmless bug to Soontir) your list doesn't have the PS to go toe-to-toe with an Ace. I'd suggest going for the shuttle with your opening salvo to knock it off in the first or second round of firing, while using your bomber's homing missiles against the most dangerous ace (Universally Soontir or Whisper).

3. Rebel amalgamation. Usually includes Poe or another PS 10 ace. This is going to be a joust, so focus fire on anything with higher PS than you Inquisitor to win the long game.

That's about it. Again, congratulations on winning your first tournament again.
