Some questions

By tehgr8supa, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

I wasn't sure Rules Questions was the place for this, but it seemed better than the rest.

I'm an avid RPG player, everything from Final Fantasy to World of Warcraft to D&D. I'm having trouble, though, figuring out what each Career Path is good at.

So in a quick summary, what does each Career Path accel in? Also is there any healing in the game? (I haven't read through the entire rulebook yet but maybe you can save me some time).

Also, there is a typo on the character sheets. Where it is supposed to say "Lift", it says "Lfit". Anybody know if there is a fixed one?

It's hard to pigeon-hole them to specifics as there's a lot of play in each career as to what individual characters will accel at depending how they spend their XP. However, each career dose get a special ability that no other career gets which should illustrate, to an extent, what that career is, over all, good at. These are detailed on pg 72. Further, the small career chart on pg 37 gives a brief blurb about the main thrust of each career. Beyond that, it's really all in how the characters of a given career are put together.

As for healing, yes, of course there is, but it's slow and terribly painful. You can find rules regarding it on pg 83 under "Medicae" and on pg 262 under the heading "Healing"

Finally, that is not a type-o. Lfit is a somewhat uncommon but still acceptable way of saying Life-Fitness which is a measure of a persons over-all health and vitality. However, in recent times, mostly due to various large health clubs cropping up (especially in the Bottombog region of Britain and the Hallios Vally in the Blue Hills of the Eastern US), when it is used, especially in it's shortened form of Lfit or L-fit, it is more in reference to a person's physical might and strength, how fit their muscles are in other words. This is usually measured in the amount of weight that a person could lift over their heads, which might be where you were initially confused. Looking at it, I can see where one who's "not hip to" the more subtle and esoteric terms floating around in todays society might think that Lfit is just a simple transposition of two letters in the word Lift, which is truly an odd coincidence, but I can assure you that such is not the case.

Aha, that is good to know. I was really disappointed when I saw the character sheet. I thought, "A typo in a book is one thing, but on something that's going to be mass reproduced and used, at the table, over and over? Come on FFG." But thanks for clearing that up.

And I will take a look at the things you referred me to. Thanks!

Forgot to mention three other ways of healing mentioned in the book. On pg 104 under the heading "Prosanguine" is a talent available only to Exploritors (and most mechanicus for that matter) which helps them heal. On pg 96 under the heading "Divine Ministration" is a talent open to Missionaries which has healing effects. Finally, Fate Points can be used to heal a character strait out. Rules for this can be found on pg 233 under the heading "Using Fate Points"

On anouther note, I'm glad you were able to see the reasoning in using the rather esoteric term "Lfit." Judging from your ready acceptance of my explanation, I think you very well might be the right person to help me out with a bit of a problem I'm having. You see, I'm heir to the Somlain Throne though I have been forced to flee my home country and live in exile here in the United States. However, I still have loyal servants in my homeland who have secured most of my wealth but are unable to send it to me for doing such would surely give away my hiding place to the pirates who stole my home and country. I believe you are an honest individual and could help me greatly and I would, of course, reward you handsomely for your assistance. You see, if my servants could transfer a portion of my fortunes into your bank account, i can then collect it from you and the pirates would be none the wiser about my hiding place and, for your trouble, I will leave you with one million dollars. All I would need from you to begin the process is just your bank account number, the banks routing number, and a few other bits of personal banking information. Together, we will thwart those Pirates and make you a rich man in the process!

I don't think hip waders and an air filter mask can even handle how deep it's getting in here. Might have to break out a void suit just to keep breathing.

Graver dearest, is there a particular reason for why you're pulling the OP's leg? lengua.gif

Because I believe that equal portions of Information and Dis-Information must be distributed to promote critical thinking? Because I was left with a bit of time while I waited for a file to save and had nothing better to do with it? Because it's just plain fun? Or, more likely, because he didn't call me on shenanigans for my explanation of the word "Lfit"? Take your pick, any of the above explanations should work and if none of those do, I can come up with more, so many more...

To the OP, please disregard the above text as well as the posts of the two above posters. They're working with the Somalian Pirates as Internet Pirates (one of them's Swedish even!) so you know where their loyalties lie. I really am a very wealthy Somalian Prince! Just send me those numbers and we'll be in business. Also, if you have any other questions regarding the rules and getting started, don't hesitate to ask, we'd be more then happy to help out...

...Especially after I get those numbers...

Also note that for early characters there are a few helpful things for doing 1st aid.

1)The advanced med-kit doesn't require any skill

2)A servo-skull can be given medical skill, and equipment.

Otherwise the techpriest is best at healing as he goes up in ranks. There is an implant that doubles his int bonus which means he could easily heal a lightly injured person for 8-12 wounds.
