Scum and Villainy 35: US Nationals and Underused Cards

By Kelvan, in X-Wing

Kelvan, Blair and Antigrapist cover the US Nationals results , dis Manaroo Dengar builds and discuss the cards that we think see too little play. How did you feel about our picks and what cards would you have included instead?

The S&V Crew is interested in hearing what you want us to talk about in the world of X-Wing. Submit your topics and Quickdraw lists to scumandvillainypodcast at gmail.com

And to all our fans who feel disappointed by the lack of drama, we recorded before listening to Mynock Squadron’s call for a Podcast Battle Royale. We hope to have a both Sozin and the drama back up to full speed by the next episode.

The funny thing about Blair's dislike for the Manaroo/Dengar builds is he was holding back on the show. You should see him in the Slack channel.

Oh c'mon, the build is fun!

If you think it's rubbish, prove it by killing it. ;)

(Disclaimer: I've never flown it.)

For the Quickdraw list submissions, are we assuming that the rules will allow attacks during the activation phase?

Who won the star viper list submission and what was the list?

Note: I haven't listed to the full podcast yet

Thanks.

Yes

Yes

If it's ruled eventually that there is no activation phase attacks allowed, will anyone use Quickdraw ever?

Maybe I'm in the minority, but even with being able to fire during the activation phase I find Quickdraw (and the TIE/sf) to be pretty mediocre in general. He's super fragile and the inclusion of Wired doesn't inspire confidence in the dial.

Is it going up on Itunes?

Good point :)

After more consideration, I'm fine with introducing shooting in the Activation phase, at least in Quickdraw's case where he's PS 9 (potentially PS 8 with Adaptability) so you're only really preying on PS9+ ships, which works for me since I hate the whole high PS arms race :) I'm happy to see an ability that could give people pause when they are about to slap VI on Vader or whatever.

Is it going up on Itunes?

I was listening to it this morning via apple podcast app.

It hasn't come up on Itunes yet, and I need somthing to listen to on my way to work in an hour!

I'm not expecting a good dial either, but think of him as Corran Horn but shooting at PS [13] and PS 9 instead of PS 8 and PS [-1]. As long as you don't sink too many points into him, he can be a pretty brutal alpha strike.

The build I want to try is:

31 - Quickdraw w/ Title, Rage, Electronic Baffle

You burn one of your shields to throw out a Rage stress, keep the 2nd stress and you're getting 2 or 4 shots at high PS with 3 rerolls per attack and a focus token. You're probably only going to get this to work once, but it's a similar concept as a U-Boat but firing sooner, potentially landing more damage against low AGI targets and still cheaper.

The difference is that Corran regenerates a shield every turn, while Quickdraw burns one every turn. Though I suppose if you really wanted to double down on the alpha strike you could always run Quickdraw with Wired and Youngster with Rage.

Here's hoping the tech upgrades are amazing and they included Wired because it has 2-sloops, 3-trolls, and 4-ks. Still, the two agility and lack of evade really killed my excitement for the TIE/sf.

The idea with Quickdraw, I think, is that you use him in a squad that is powerful overall, but weak to some specific thing, then you use Quickdraw to toast that one specific thing before it can wreck your squad. Ideally, it costs as much or more than Quickdraw, and maybe Quickdraw is still alive at the end.

For example, you could do:

Quickdraw, Rage, Baffles (31)

Delta Squadron Pilot, Ion Cannon, TIE/D (33)

Delta Squadron Pilot, Ion Cannon, TIE/D (33)

97 points

or

Quickdraw, Rage, Baffles (31)

Glaive Squadron Pilot, Juke, x7 (34)

Glaive Squadron Pilot, Juke, x7 (34)

99 points

Stuff can be adjusted if any of the new tech slots look particularly good.

The weak thing you're trying to murder being enemy Soontirs, etc?

Quickdraw is unusually good at murdering Fel and Whisper, but he can use Baffles and his ability to get an extra shot on anyone.

I expect a formal apology when the Scyk fix drops and they are all the rage! :P

But if you must know, it is one of the few ships of that expansion size I don't have one of, so that's the main reason I asked for it. I wouldn't spend my own money on it, so figured I'd use this opportunity to get it. :D

Also, can we PLEASE get a shirt, or at least get Blair a shirt that says "Don't Back stab me bro!" with an image of Backstabber on it?

Can we get Blair a shirt with a picture of himself, crying, and the tears are shaped like tiny Dengars and Manaroos? Please? :P

Sensor Jammer. Word! Only trouble is that I only have one copy of the Imperial Shuttle Expansion Pack, so only one Sensor Jammer. I have a squad with Carnor Jax, Zertik Strom and Captain Kagi. Currently Kagi has Sensor Jammer, and Strom has Accuracy Corrector. If I had another copy of Sensor Jammer, I'd probably replace the Accuracy Corrector with that.

I really liked the podcast. Very fun.

Blair, you mentioned the final game wasn't streamed but we do have it here

Also at about the 7 minute mark brian england who took top 8 sits down and talks about dengaroo, he breifly touches on weaknesses.

These are great ideas. Who can design shirts?
