Wild guess: Proton Throttle is a backward torpedo?

By JimbonX, in X-Wing

In upcoming Heroes of Resistance there will be some new cards. One of them, I guess, is called Proton Throttle.

3 guesses I have are:

Can fire a torpedo backwards - no firearc needed and act as a proxyimity mine.

Fire normal and gives out splash damage. In other words, hits and crits in range 1.

Perform a boost. Before moving - roll dice and see damage on the defender at range 1.

Oh and in Arc-170, Seismic Torpedo (2p).

what

Judging by the indetation of the second row it can't be "Throttle" as it would line up fairly well with "Proton", also the fourth letter is clearly a 'U'. "Proton Thrusters" would be my guess.

I don't understand a word

I'm guess it's Prow Thrusters. X-Wing only mod that lets you reduce speed, sort of like Juno Eclipse?

That's my guess based on the shape of the text. Dunno what it might do though. I'd guess actually change a bank to a turn on reveal - prow thrusters on real ships are usually used to tighten the turning circle by firing sideways out of the bow of the ship, rather than firing backwards to slow or move backwards which is done with the main propellor.

Would be an interesting mechanic. Basically giving X-Wings a 1-turn, as well as a bit of reactivity. Hoping it's 0 or 1 points then, so it makes for a compelling alternative to IA and AT.

I initially thought about that mechanic as a StarViper fix, but with 'may change a bank to a straight or turn of the same direction/speed. I'm not sure about it on the x-wing, it seems likely to be a little overpowering on the high PS aces to give them a green 1-turn with built-in at-initiative movement changing.

Doesn't change it being what I think that it might do though.

Another interesting thing might be 'when you execute a manoeuvre you may place your base so the template is adjacent to the outside of either nub rather than between them' - effectively allowing a built-in mini-br on all moves.

I don't think it would be overpowered when you factor in the opportunity cost. IA and AT are really, really solid upgrades, and depending on cost, Vector Thrusters could be as well. I think I would still run AT on Poe, and it's not as if Luke, Wedge and Wes see that much table time anyway.

A balance for it may be that you can receive a stress to do it, and it can't be done if stressed. Basically giving it a net white 1-turn that you can't do if stressed.

Here are a few BIG ifs.

  • If it is Prow Thrusters and
  • if it gives a new maneuver or extra move to X-Wings and
  • if this is some sort of buff/fix/awesome upgrade for X-Wings including T-65 and
  • if the expansion only comes with one as pictured

Then I see more than a few disgruntled people.

As a matter of fact just looking at the pictures, even the duplicate cards only have two each rather than four. So:

  • if these cards are really awesome and
  • if they are upgrades you could use on all X-Wings including T-65 and
  • If you only get two, in an expansion that most would consider as unique ships

Then I can only imagine the comments that will come from this. No I'm not saying FFG is under any obligation giving 4 of each upgrade. And yes we can always proxy no mater how yucky that may be for some.

I'm just wondering remember all of the fond comments we have seen already regarding other releases with fixes such as Star Viper & Autothrusters; CR-90 & C-3PO; Imperial Raider & TIE Adv.

For Reference (I am not adding to what has been said elsewhere - I am just providing background to readers who are still scratching their head at what the original post is about.:

Note that there is no way on this green earth that the first word is longer than four or five letters (PR??(?)), and the second word starts with THRU...

There are about 120 or so words in the English language that start with PR, and are 4 or 5 letters long. Of those, only a very few could be massaged enough to make any sense in the context:

  • prow
  • prime
  • proto
  • proxy

With regards to the second word, there are very, very few words larger than 7 letters which begin with THRU - and most of them are derivatives of Thrust. The second word is very clearly, "Thrusters"

All things being equal, I think "Prow Thrusters" is the most reasonable guess.

Prow thrusters does seem most likely.

Aircraft do not have Prows. That's for ships.

I tried building the card using the Strange Eons card builder and if you use the terms Prime Thruster it lines up exactly as in the image. None of the other combinations seem to line up.

actually, I'm way more excited about the illicit Burst of Speed. Large Ship only, discard this card to perform a SLAM action. Outside of feedback array, I rarely use the illicits in general (I don't play brobots much) so having this on my YV is really going to get me out of a jam. Imagine your party bus getting to do 2x 3 hard turns in a row. It's almost alike a K-turn without the stress. I like the dampners but this may actually get you in a better position or out of a jam.

Burst of Speed is going to be amazing. It might make Emon Azzameen good; the amount of options he gets for bombing with SLAM, ASLAM and the ability to use the 3-turn to drop is hilariously huge.

X-wings are space ships.

Proxy Thrusters allow you to proxy cards in tournament play.

How about Pointy End Thrusters? X Wings very clearly have a pointy end :P

I agree on every point except the name. If you look at the left card, you can see more of the letter after S. It's very clearly not a P. The only letter it looks like is U, which doesn't leave a lot of words that make sense.

My best guess is "Burner Suite"

Just as well they're not aircraft, then. Space faring ships must then have prows...
