That is completely awesome. If i wasn't already buying every single RPG product they put out, this would make me start just to support them more.

I love those personal touches.

Okay, so thanks to you, I have now been forced to place my order for all three decks.
I asked them to draw an Angry Penguin on the box, and name it “Desslok”. We’ll see if they can deliver.
That makes me smile.
This makes me unicorn.

so many laughs from that
That is really, really cool.
Uh, oh. You have now set the delivery bar quite high for the FFG store...
But kudos to them for being such good sports! And, yay to getting the adversary decks.
Bah. That's not a real unicorn. Where's its rainbow poop?

They needed SOMETHING to use for packing material.

Yup, we’ve got a live one there in the FFG shipping office.
From now on, this is the way I will always see Desslok:

Pulling back a bit, here’s the top corner of the box:

And here’s the comment on the receipt:

Now, I have to find a way to make that drawing appear over his picture on the forum….
EDIT: Oh, and I do have three new adversary packs, too. Thanks! ![]()

I have never wanted a new avatar until now. . . .
That is amazing.
That. Is. Awesome. Also, it really highlights the fact that there are humans packing those things, not just automated robotics. I just hope not everyone starts to add those request, so FFG doesn't have to make internal policy prohibiting them. Or that those don't slow down deliveries.

I wouldn’t want FFG to prohibit them, no. And I would rather things take an extra day, if that is what is required.
Sidenote:
Mon canard est en feu!!
Is that actually correctly translated as “My duck is on fire”?
Is that just a random quote in French, or does it mean something specific?
When I retire I could sign on as the official FFG poorly skilled part-time package sketch artist?

It is a quote from Schlock mercenary comic. http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2005-06-22 and afaik you translated it correctly. IMO it's one of the best scifi webcomics.
But almost back to topic. I'm really happy I got a new job, so I can buy more FFG stuff. Kind of unfortunately not directly from them (1), but from local gaming store. Next big thing would be to start regular gaming with our gaming group. **** schedules, and those few gamers who cannot explicitly say what time is good for them. "It might be good or might not be good."
(1) Because of where I live, for example a single adversary deck ($6.95) would cost me $26.65 with shipping from FFG store. And add taxes and possible duty to that, so no thank you (I'm NOT blaming FFG). I rather pay the 7.70€ ($8.58) to local gaming store.
edit: fixed small typo

Hmm. That style of artwork seems very familiar. Like, from Dragon magazine back in the 80s. Around the same time that Phil Foglio was drawing for them. Hmm.

I try to support my FLGS as much as I can. Unfortunately, the one that has good people doesn’t have a great distributor, and because they’re small, they can’t keep a great deal of stock of SWRPG books. Pretty much the entire store is kept alive by MtG, so they do as much as they can with other things that they know some of their patrons are interested in, but there’s a limit to what they can do.
As for problems with local gamers, yeah — that’s totally normal. You’re really lucky if you can get in with a good crowd. All I can suggest is that you keep looking.

Yeah, shipping charges, and import duties, and taxes on top of taxes, all those things definitely suck. Good luck with your FLGS!

My solution to this problem was to get a "subscription" (from my FLGS, Active Imagination) for every new FFG star wars book. Basically what that means is when they place their regular orders for merchandise (i.e. as new books are released) they order and hold a copy explicitly for ME. And they're happy to do it because it's guaranteed money in their pocket error cash register error bank account (I pay by credit card for the convenience of not having to have that much cash in my pocket and the security of not being responsible for any fraudulent charges). It also means that they have to speculate less on what to buy. Obviously they have to keep some stock on hand for people who want to browse but I think most FLGS would prefer for their regular customers to have subscriptions (or more generally pre-orders because you can one off order just the books you want you don't have to order by regular expressions, that's a computer science reference for anyone who didn't follow) that they can know how much to order to meet the demand and have less stock on in the store waiting for someone to buy it. They give me a call on my cell phone when the truck delivers it to the store and I pick it up usually on the way home from work (unless my wife is working that night, she's a night nurse, and I have to hurry home to have dinner with her before she goes to work, in which case I usually go to the FLGS after my wife has left for work.) Shipments normally come in on a Wednesday or Thursday, so I know what days to check my cell phone messages before driving home (I work at a government lab, so can't bring my cell phone in, something to do with national security and not wanting to let adversaries remotely activate the microphone and thereby listen in on people in classified meetings or use smartphones to hack on site computer, BTW all Bluetooth devices have to be disabled and WiFi has to be disabled even on government owned laptops when they are brought into the tech area, so even if someone does accidentally bring in a smartphone that is hacked... there is no active wireless device onsite for it to connect to, good luck hacking nothing) the point of that long tangent... I turn off my cell phone and leave it in my car, so on Wednesdays and Thursdays I tend to check my voice mail before driving home just in case my FLGS has gotten a delivery

For a while, I did that. They knew they could count on me to buy a copy of any new FFG Star Wars book that came out.
But the guy who does the ordering doesn’t know FFG or Star Wars that well, and his distributor gets the stuff pretty late, if at all. Sometimes weeks would go by after a new book was out everywhere else, and they still hadn’t seen a copy.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the store and the people, but there’s only so much that they can do to support this game.
