Advice: Need a Day Case for going to the Store

By John Rainbow, in X-Wing

Hey all. I have a great storage solution for all my x-wing stuff at home but I'm looking for a smaller 'day' case I can use when I go to the store or a tournament or whatever. It needs top hold my squad obviously and all the cards, templates, etc too. Any ideas from anyone?

Thanks in advance.

I use a plastic Stanley tool/utility box. I got it years ago for a different purpose, but it currently holds my entire collection, and all the tokens I would need. They make a smaller one, but I don't think the smaller box has the space for any of the larger ships.(mine has the Falcon, Slave-1 and Outrider in it but won't fit any further large ships)

I use a Plano tackle-box for my whole X-wing collection. It's on the bigger side, but their smaller boxes would work well for a single squad/support stuff.

The small green one has 4 small plano cases that has my playcase (1 plano box), my scum faction (2 boxes) and extra numbers and TL and obstacles (1 case). I take this one to tournaments and stores days.

The Orange has 5 cases which hold my rebel and empire faction ships and dials (2 cases each). The 5th case has my large ships in it.

I have 2 Plasticase for my huge ships. Red for rebels and Grey for Imperial.

I use this: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90246154/

I put the ships in the smaller one to keep them separate from the cards and tokens and stuff, and the smaller one plus all that other stuff in the larger one. Magnetic clasp.

I already have some plano boxes for my entire collection. What I was doing previously was using a the starter box to transport just the stuff for a store game but then I nearly broke off one of the cannons on my B-wing. Naturally now I'm looking for something else. I would like a box around the same size as the starter set one but maybe with some compartments I can add some padding into.

I use a messenger bag meant for carrying a Sega Game Gear.

I put my list and my templates and everything else inside of a tacklebox.

I stack my tournament movement tray on top of the box.

On top of the movement tray goes my dice tray.

I put my combo template holder and damage deck holder in my dice tray.

This stack then goes into my Game Gear bag, which is then zipped up.

I use one of these from Home Depot. You get two interlocking cases for just $10. Each on is two inches deep (just enough for a Ghost). The orange dividers can be removed for larger ships, plus I remove them for my range rulers, etc. I take one with me to stores and carry 3 squads with me, plus my templates, range rulers. Tokens, dice, damage cards, I carry in a separate small organizer . All fits in a backpack. I keep my small ships on the stands so setup is fast, and keep cards and dials in a baggy for each squad. Also, two inches is just deep enough so jumpmasters and brobots can be kept on their stands (1 peg high). Just pull them out and you are ready to play :)

I have a Plano power tool box.

The trick is, it holds two Plano pro latch organizers neatly, with room for that organizer tray to fit back in.

I used to just use the pro latch, but I find I need a bit more storage nowadays. The tool box holds enough for a night at the gaming club, or a tourney.

Is flying with only 3 maneuvers some sort of handicap? ;)

I use feldherr foam and boxes at home which are great, I am considering getting a feldherr mini bag for tacking stuff to stores, I have the maxi bag at the moment which is great for going over a friends to play but not sure if I want to be taking 40-50 ships to the store when I play.

I've got a whole album dedicated to just this question.

It's mostly about how I store all my gear, but there are a few pictures of my game day transport solution

It's a Plano 5321 - can't recommend it enough

Battle foam 216 custom. do the top for cards dice etc.. Bottom for ships. BTW they will do custom multiple cuts meaning you can have a space that fits a Falcon and or a decimater perfectly. also their 4rth of july sale starts soon if it hasn't already...

I bought the foam and a topper from Feldherr.net and used a Carcassonne game box - fits right in. I think every foam they have can hold a big ship and a few small ones + cards and tokens.

I have two of the Plano 1374 boxes that hold all my ships (aside from Epics), plus a Case-It double binder for all the cards. This is more than manageable if I'm bringing everything along for the day.

But for tournaments or days when I don't feel like lugging everything (especially rainy days here in Florida), I slim down. I already have one of the Plano boxes in one of my 1374s devoted solely to game components: templates, dice, damage cards, obstacle tokens, and all the tokens basic to all ships. So that gets pulled out. Then I have an empty Plano box in which I put the ships, dials, tokens, bases, pegs and cards I plan on using that day. I currently have three full squads in my box (a six-TIE Rage swarm, a three-ship Rebel build, and a pair of Brobots), and the two Planos are easily portable on their own or in a backpack.

I have this go-pro case that works excellently - it has a bunch of arrangeable dividers that allow you secure ships quite nicely, and it's deep enough to have room for everything but the long range ruler. I got it a lot cheaper at REI (with my discounts/member refunds), but you can find some decent ones at Amazon, including their own Basics line - this one has precut foam, but comes with the cut-outs so you can easily customize it if needed. This one is a cheaper version of the one I have. You can search Amazon for generic hard cases and find a ton that come with or without foam/dividers.

It is when one of them isn't a 2-Bank.

I bought two clear desk organizers off of Amazon for tournaments. The smaller one is great for short ships on single pegs while the larger box can handle taller ships on one or two pegs or short ships on three pegs. I pack up all my chips and dice into dice bags and I've got a neat and tight tournament box.

For day to day play I use a Feldherr Mini Plus w/ a small compartment box. I can typically keep two to three lists on me at all times with this setup.

I really like this idea!
