The Illicit Cloaking Device - Thematically Improving Functionality

By FTS Gecko, in X-Wing

I'm actually happy enough if it is discarded only at the start of the next round, rather than at the end of the round.

its a fun card.... add juke and Stygium Particle Accelerator just to annoy the crap out of people.

Then you cloak on the approach, it craps out before you engage, and does nothing. I've been there, several times, that's why I don't use it any more.

It is fun, but spending 6 points on something that has a 1/4 chance of breaking every round you use it is just not worth it - Juke is a terrible idea unless you have the Evade action natively, which only the Mist Hunter does that can actually take it.

I love the idea of the card, I really do enjoy it, but I just don't think there's a way to make it worth the cost, both in points and/or in not taking something better like Glitterstim or Feedback Array in the same slot.

Making it possible to rely on it at least once would have helped a great deal.

yeap its 6 point and fun play. you cloak the round before you know shooting will start (yeap a chance it will break and you will de-cloak) .... next round de cloak get a free evade you can use with duke.

I have had this last 8 rounds and i have had it die in the first round but thats what I like about it.

Anyone actually had any success with it on the table?

I blew someone up through it still.

Define success .... By having a fun unpredictable game I would say yes I have. or if what you want is "To crush your enemies -- See them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women!" then naaa cant help you

But remember "nothing sucks seeds like a Canary"

The Illicit cloaking device has multiple uses, but an important one is adding a layer of unpredictability to ships which usually are highly predictable. For example: the Hawk.

If you take Palob, getting that range 2 or finding shelter behind an asteroid suddenly becomes a whole lot easier.

It was used in the three Scyk / one HWK list that came 2nd at the Lothal open this past weekend.

They were just a little too stingy, eh?

Not only does it not last forever, it breaks entirely when it stops. Not only does it break, but it breaks at the end of a round rather than the start of the next. Not only is it so heavily restricted, but it's unique to boot.

I feel they could probably have eased the breaks off a teeny little bit. It's one of my favourite cards otherwise.
