I thought I would share the current variant circulating with my play group. Just a warning, we focus on the Original Trilogy ships. This variant is based on the restriction of cards, it includes no house rules beyond those access restrictions. Rules for accessible cards are as written.
Epic Play - No restrictions. Everything in the game can be in epic play.

Each faction has a restricted ship list based on the Original Trilogy*:

*Scum is special. In order to differentiate them from the other factions, they are the Infamous, focusing on the best of the best. Lord Vader's lineup from ESB. Scum do not fly generic.

Some notes on balance: The restrictions in place were checked against Major Juggler's jousting values and house rule posts going back to wave V. Most of the suggested fixes were added in subsequent updates. IE. X-Wings getting a free hull was addressed with Integrated Astromech. Y-Wings getting the BTL-A4 title increased jousting efficiency, etc.
How do the factions play?
Well, Imperials are swarmy. You can still make a potent combo with Vader and Soontir, but without Palpatine, they feel appropriately risky and dangerous.
Rebels are a hodgepodge including 1 of only 2 PWTs. They still have regeneration, but Luke is nowhere near the nuisance of Corran or Poe. Y-Wings can still stresshog it up, but only at range 2.
Scum are typically 2 or 3 ship builds only, as their high costs for pilots limit what they can put out. However, with full access to crews, illicit upgrades, and some nice pilot abilities they are personally my favorite faction to fly in this variant.
Just a note, I posted this without any intent to pass judgement on the current iteration of the game. These are some simple changes that my gaming group has found enjoyable. I'm sharing it in the event any of you want to shake the game up a little for themselves as well.
