The Maneuver Templates should be optional

By Holmelund, in X-Wing

Redundancy is redundant, we already had dundant, why we had to redundit?

This is brought to you by the Department for Redundancy Department.

Please don't oppress others.

This answer is so rediculous because obviously that's what he does with this whole topic...

I think the ships are redundant and add clutter to the game. We can eliminate the ships, tokens, cards, templates and just roll the dice until we each agree on a winner.

I think Dice are redundant, and add more clutter to the game than their given reason for existing warrants. I think they should be optional. Seriously, who among us can't calculate the average result (round down) and just go with that?

Most of the time they end up in bad positions, beneath ships (looking at you Mr. VCX-100), ajar against asteroids, off the table, and just generally make a mess of the pristine state of the tabletop.

I am sure there are some really good reason to have those dice, but I am also sure that those reasons aren´t good enough.

But that´s me. What does the community think? Will the game fall apart without them, or be better off without them?

I prefer to mentally roll randomized results in my mind. It's staggeringly unlikely, but yes, I did in fact roll yet another outlier set of 4 critical hits.

I rolled 4-crits on HLK full re-roll after 4-blanking with it.

tough luch, Chirpy didn't expect such volumes and became a flaming wreck, taking 2 Direct hits, 1 flaming console and 1 "roll hit to get a crit"

that crit was Albert Direct Hit Einstein

I think asteroids are redundant and clutter the table.

Nah the game templates need a fix. I think you should have a template to measure between your ships and your templates. Because, you know, one set of templates lacks accuracy compared to two sets of templates.

Nobody here has touched down on the ridiculously redundant nature of the damage deck. Just so, so many cards! I feel as though a single card should suffice for both players.

What if we do it with sugar and happy things? Is it still oppression if it's fun?

I'm sure we can oppress people as long as we trick them into enjoying it first.

Hmmm.

Wonder if you could do without physical templates?

Hook up a small projector on a fixed height arm that you could move over the table and project the template shapes onto the board? Have a wheel with the templates cut out to switch between templates.

Swarms are redundant also and need to be fixed :P

I think my opponents are redundant, and add more clutter to the game than their given reason for existing warrants. I think they should be optional. Seriously, who among us can't pretend there is an opponent across from us?

Most of the time they end up in bad positions, say stuff, throw fits, chew gum, place drinks on the table, and just generally make a mess of the pristine state of the tabletop.

I am sure there are some really good reason to have opponents, but I am also sure that those reasons aren´t good enough.

I'm thinking that tarring and feathering the Original poster might be in order, but that would be mean. Maybe instead we just use hot honey and really pretty feathers (like peackock ones). That is less met? Hell, some people might even be into the idea of being honeyed and feathered.

My pants are redundant.

So are mine, but they do serve a purpose.
