With all the Vets and Aces, where is the S&V Infamy?

By Stone37, in X-Wing

So we have Imp Aces, Reb Aces, Most Wanted, Imp Vets, and Heroes of the Resistance. If trends hold up, scum is back up to bat.

Most Wanted was more of an incomplete core set then any kind of veterans pack.

Not really it was more of a conversion kit as you had to already have 3 ships (2 rebel 1 imperial) in order to make full use of it. It had none of the necessary components for the game. It didn't even have obstacle tokens so to call it a core set because it had 3 models is inaccurate.

No more inaccurate then people referring to it as a veterans pack. As To why i referred to it as a core set Please look at this email I recieved form them some time ago when I first getting into the game:

Thank you for contacting Fantasy Flight Games. At present, we have no plans for uglies in the Star Wars X-Wing universe. The scum ships that are to be released are basically their own core set, and are instantly usable in the preexisting rule set. However, the initial core set is necessary for such things as dice, asteroids, and templates. Hope that helps.

As for your broken Z-95 Headhunter, please feel free to place a parts replacement request at http://parts.fantasyflightgames.com/ we will facilitate that order as quickly as possible.

There are 3 scum ships that could use a bit of rebalancing, the StarViper, the Scyk and the Kihraxz. Many, many people are expecting an Aces pack with two of them, and an Epic ship with the third packed in with it. Though exactly what the fixes would be is up for debate.

So no, it's not just you.

(My personal preference for a StarViper fix would be a title that allows it to equip a second different title, and allows it to change a bank manoeuvre to a straight or turn in the same direction of the same speed on reveal, effectively giving it the green hard turn it so desperately wants.)

My Theory is a Hutt Epic ship with the Scyk and and Aces/Veteran pack with Khiraxhjdfu and Star Viper. I love the Viper, would love to fly it more, it's just not economical for what it does except for maybe Guri.

So...the Heroes of the Resistance pack comes with two copies of Integrated Astromech. What are the chances that such a Scum aces pack as you suggest would come with 2 copies of Autothrusters? :D (Yeah, TIE interceptor fan here).

As to the Scyk, I think I heard Alex Davy say something along the lines of, "I wish we had designed the title so that it also added a hull to the M3-A when it was equipped." I think that's a really great idea, and there's no reason they come up with a new title, perhaps one that added both an additional hull and a boost action? But then it's getting awfully close to the new Protectorate starfighter...

Well I haven't been calling the Most Wanted pack an aces/veterans/heroes pack as it is obviously not. The pack didn't update any past ship for its faction it just brought ships from other factions into it. They don't mix with Rebels and Imperials.

It is funny that FFG calls it a core set because as you said before it is incomplete and cannot be played without the components from a core set. A starter for Scum and Villainy squadrons well yes sort of a good starting point if you decide not to go straight for bro-bots, but it is obvious that you can't play with it by itself, even is smaller introduction matches.

The Syck basic sits at 14 points and has TL and +1 PS on Academy Pilot. If TIE swarm is a thing why isn't Syck Swarm?

I can't tell if this was rhetorical or not, so if it was, I'm the fool.

My counter question is, why don't you see TIE swarms with Targeting Computer on all of them? It's an inefficient use of points. First off, you want focus to help you survive until you can fire, and secondly, many TIE swarms use Howlrunner for rerolls anyway. The max number of Scyks you can get is 7, but with TIEs, one of those 7 is Howlrunner.

What about a CrackSwarm variant? At 18 points per ship, you only get 5 Scyks with 10 points left over. I suppose you could add Serissu or put 3 Hull Upgrades on. For the TIEs, you can get 6 CrackTIEs and one of those can be Howlrunner or you can do 3 Hull again.

It seems that Scyks are often behind the TIE lists by a whole ship. Also, that +1 PS on the lowest PS ships can be a liability for Scyks since now they'll be blocked instead of being the blocker.

I've actually been enjoying a scyk crack swarm. Went 4 TVP + serissu with crack, tractor and stealth. Gives me an PS bid over other crack swarms.

How about dual systems on starvipers? A free mod that gives it one, and then Guri and xizor can use the title for a second systems upgrade

Fcs/adv sensors combined with sensor jammer would be powerful as hell. Expensive, too.

Maybe too much.

Personally o tbink the starviper should get +1 shield and something like an additional 1/2 red die. Maybe convert a hit to a crit at r1-2 or something.

A free System slot would be too unoriginal I think. The same fix as the TIE/Ad would seem unlikely.

The Virago title provides a illicit and system slot for 1 point. I like the idea of a 0 cost system slot that replaces the torpedo slot. Or perhaps a 2 point FCS like ability for the Starviper that is either a mod or replaces the torpedo.

I think either a title or a StarViper specific torpedo upgrade is most likely personally. As noted, I thought initially that a 'make banks into straights or greens' thing would be cool to give it the knife fighting greens and let it be an interceptor, but now that the Fang's on the way I'm more dubious. I'm feeling like it will end up being in a slightly uncomfortable place where it's just a slightly worse version of the Aggressor even after the fix.

Make it a brawler.

I would not have thought a 3AGI brawler would work very well - and then they released the x7 Defender title. Let StarVipers do the same, and they'll be scary once again.

Exactly! The Starviper is an advanced fighter. It was designed to take the best of the TIE Fighter and the X-wing to create a ship that was better at dog fighting than anything else in the galaxy. I think a system slot should have been a part of this ship from the get go. More theme appropriate might be a native illicit slot were those buzz droids could be carried.

Both the TAP and the Defender have a way of gaining a free Evade. A similar effect would be nice for the Starviper.

Right after I posted, that's the list I came up with for a Crack swarm and I was thinking it could actually be fun. Glad to hear you're enjoying it. I need another 3 Kihraxz and 3 Scyks to run that list, though, so I probably won't play it anytime soon.

Need a point cost reduction title that allows you to bring 5 Starvipers in ONE list, and then if you fly them in just the right formation, they form VOLTRON.

I've only flown it in vassal :P. I have all the crack shots I need (4 kihrax and a hounds tooth) but only 1 scyk. Haven't been able to being myself to buy 4 more to run it in person yet :P. Only 5-4 with it so far,but some of those losses were my first games when I was learning both how to fly scyks and how to fly a crack swarm at the same time. I've done better since smashed a 2 ubiat + palob list. Lost to a black crack + omega leader list, but dice betrayed me. I killed wampa round one (had him in arc with 2 ships at range 3, no one else had shots on either side). Round 2 I think I blew up another tie and parked one on a rock with tractor beam + another damage or two. Didn't lose anyone bound 3 blew up another tie. Can't remember if I lost anyone that round, so it was 4 or 5 vs 3 and I had the ps advantage to kill stuff before they got to shoot. Never killed another ship. Think I got 1 to 1 hull, 1 to 2 hull and OL down his shield and maybe a hull.
