World Championships : What are Day1a and Day1b ?

By Fanfan, in X-Wing

I guess the information is somewhere (everywhere), but I am struggling to find it, and I'd really like to know :

Are Day 1a and Day 1b a split between the overall player pool, or two following days of a long swiss series ?

If it's the first option : When registering, are you also selecting on which day you'd like to compete ?

I love FFG world championships as they give me the occasion to play good tournaments of a bunch of games I like in a single trip, but I am struggling every year with conflicting schedules ... I am trying to anticipate how bad it's going to be this year and likely make hard choices about which games to play (I had to drop from the X-wing cut two years ago, and Conquest last year in order to play Armada Day 2 - I'd like to see how bad it's going to be this year !)

Thank you !

I am sure this is similar to how the Opens were run with everyone playing one of the Day 1 events with a certain amount of tournament points moving you on to Day 2. I am not sure how they will be handling sign up, but most likely the player will get to decide in which Day 1 pool they want to dip their toe in.

I'm guessing they are following a forgot similar to the system opens and the US National Championship. Which would lead me to believe you have 2 different flights or qualify days. I'm assuming you'll be able to sign up for either day. Then it appears on Sunday if you made the qualifying you have 2 more rounds of swiss and a cut to the top 16 on Sunday.
