Stats for Former Republic soldiers and the clone troopers.

Hey folks, I was trying to get a rough idea of how much experience a Former Republic Soldier or a Clone Trooper who managed to stop in the aging process would have. I want to actually build them as player characters rather than just copy a nemesis. I was thinking somewhere in the 400 - 500 range?

It totally depends on the character. Obviously Rex would be way more loaded up than someone who sat around a listening post for most of his career.

For what its worth, Mask of the Pirate Queen has band of geriatric clone troopers in it and they are really nothing amazing.

Yeah, I was going to mention those semi-retired Clone Troopers in the Pirate Queen book. But they didn't stop the aging process, hah.

I'd say take the Stormtrooper stats and improve where you see fit.

And as a GM I would let them have one or two things that the players wouldn't know about, specializations they could whip out when needed. Probably something something that would remind the players that they are dealing with men who were legends among the armed forces during the Clone Wars.

Well, that depends on when in the timeline we're talking, and what sort of stormtrooper, doesn't it? I know that the Karen Traviss novels aren't canon, but I really like the idea that the Spaarti clones introduced at the end of the Clone Wars became the "modern" stormtrooper force of the Empire, until recruiting & training efforts could catch up. The GAR clones were phenomenal, but by the time of the Rebellion, they'll almost all be dead/"retired."

Additionally, the type of trooper - standard clone, ARC trooper, clone commando, etc. - will make a huge difference. Even more relevant is the type of role you want this NPC to play - minion, rival, or nemesis. If the character isn't going to interact with the party in a meaningful way, kitting him out as a nemesis is just a waste of time. You can just say "he's awesome" and hand-wave the rest.

Given the desire of the Empire for faceless uniformity in its military, the regular stormtrooper stats are a good place to start, as they're still better than a base-line human. Minions are still minions, and even great minions are meant to be mown down by PCs. If you want something a little beefier, the stormtrooper sergeant is a pretty good rival. If you want something totally custom-built and utterly awesome, the sky's the limit. The Commando, Sharpshooter, Gunner, and Tactician specializations from AoR are all good builds for veteran soldiers. AoR also has a new Soldier splatbook on the way. You just need to be cognizant of this NPC's power level relative to your party.
