Clone Wars ships WITHOUT new starter or factions

By Rhosaarc, in X-Wing

Soon I look forward to adding four ARC-170s to my collection. One for each pilot. Doubt I'd get more than that even with generics. Add to them the Z-95 and the Y-Wings and you've got a Clone Wars fleet already. But let's talk about other ships:

LAAT/i

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Low_Altitude_Assault_Transport/infantry

Another option for the Rebels. It would be a large ship with missile and crew slots, and I can see it having left and right auxiliary firing arcs or turrets. It may not be Canon any more, but I remember reading, and Wookieepedia seems to indicate, that the LAAT/i is affiliated with the Rebel Alliance. I'll also point out that, despite being a Low Altitude Assault Transport, it can be retrofitted to operate in space.

ALPHA-3 NIMBUS (aka V-Wing)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Alpha-3_Nimbus

I've already read some people suggesting this for the Scum and Villainy faction. But I can see this being an Empire ship. Basically a Tie Fighter with an Astromech, this is a likely option since (a) "it continued to see use under the Galactic Empire" and (b) I've seen three Empire Astromechs and it's possible there's more I haven't seen. This would give the Empire something new and a potential alternative to the standard Tie Swarms.

ETA-2 ACTIS-CLASS LIGHT INTERCEPTOR

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Eta-2_Actis-class_light_interceptor

Darth Vader was apparently flying around in one several years after the Clone Wars. I'm not certain, as I'm waiting for Rebels Season 2 to be on DVD so haven't seen it, but I'm sure I read somewhere about Kanan and Ahsoka flying Jedi Starfighters. Might be the arrow-shaped version instead. Either way I can see an Empire version for Darth Vader, and a Rebel version of either Jedi Starfighter. Whether or not this includes Obi-Wan or Yoda is another topic, but I wouldn't rule it out. Personally, I'd like to see this as a box with three ships: Vader's black, with two Rebel coloured ships.

Perhaps, as one person commented on another topic, this could be an opportunity to introduce a FORCE upgrade. You get an Elite Pilot Talent and a Force Pilot Talent.

So those are my Rebel, Empire and potentially Rebel and Empire expansions. LAAT/i gives two side arcs/turrets. V-Wing gives Empire Astromechs. Jedi Starfighters give Rebel and Empire the new Force Pilot Talents. Not forgetting that the Jedi Starfighters also have Astromech slots.

What about Scum and Villainy?

They get two expansions in the form of Vulture Droids and Tri-Fighters. Not sure what they'd bring to the faction, except for cheap and agile Vulture swarms and Buzz Droid missiles, but I see this as being the most likely faction for them.

Now to the Epics. Oh yes, Epics.

REBELS

CONSULAR-CLASS CRUISER

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Consular-class_cruiser

At 115 metres I hope this is kept in 1/270 scale. Ship is unarmed but can be retrofitted with a few weapons. I see this as bringing any needed fixes to the CR90 and GR75 while being it's own thing.

EMPIRE

STEALTH SHIP

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Stealth_ship

At 99.7 1 metres it again should keep to X-Wing scale. There's also a Galactic Empire named ship, the Carrion Spike, which was a personal starship of Tarkin. Being able to Cloak an Epic ship might seem game breaking but I'm sure FFG will make it work.

So there you have it.

For gamers like me, I'd fly ARC-170s alongside V-Wings to recreate Clone Wars battles. Others will stick to factions, happy to have a cool prequel ship without having to deal with more factions or another starter set.

Rather than the Stealth Ship from TCW, they could just use the Carrion Spike , Tarkin's personal ship from the novel Tarkin which seems to be the next generation of the stealth ship.

Other than that, I'd be very surprised if we saw any of these ships appear.

They did a great job with the ARC making it feel like old tech that only a handful of pilots in the Alliance favor.

The more TCW era ships you pile into the Rebel Alliance the odder it feels IMO.

I'd just prefer a clone wars era game. Arcs and etas galore. :) . Buzz droid launchers and heavy bombers and Tri fighters.

I like the Consular class Star Cruiser :) , the rest (other then the ARC) meh

What, no N-1 Starfighter? That's the most likely Clone Wars ship to feature next in the game.

The more TCW era ships you pile into the Rebel Alliance the older it feels IMO.

Fixed it for you :)

Despite not being a fan of the prequels at all, I would like to see the N-1 becasue I really do like the idea of Leia as a pilot, and in a ship from her mothers home world.

It would be good if they did it so no one else could use it. No generics, maybe just 4 different versions of Leia, or maybe Shara and Leia and other ARC-170 pilots so you have to make the choice between them.

Correct sir!

I read Shattered Empire. Making it very likely.

But I'm going more for The Clone Wars, not the Naboo Planetary defence. Plus, we already have a big topic on that already. Maybe more than one topic.

There's a V-19 Torrent I missed out. That I like best (to look at, no idea what it'd contribute to a game) but found no hint of it being used after TCW.

I could see the V-19 torrent being good at Turning well, maybe a S-loop on a Rebel/Republic fighter. Or even having a stop maneuver....I seem to recall seeing one floating a some point in the old animated (cartoon- not CGI) Clone Wars series...and according to wookiepedia, it has VTOL capabilities, so that might even be able to be useful in Spac- thus like i said giving it the 0-speed move.

It also has only 2 guns- so 2AD, and a missile slot. Maybe something like a slower version of an Awing, so good at slow turns, and then the sloop, and the stop. but nothing really fast going on?

I'm personally hoping for Vulture Droids, because it has always felt to me like they should still be in use in the OT time period, at least by crime syndicates willing to buy old army surplus.

Oh, hey! Don't wait for FFG, make them yourself. We have been having great fun with TCW era ships for a while. The only down side is flying a pack of Separatist Droids...16+ dials can get a little twitchy at times.

My thoughts too.

That's why I put them with Scum. As you've said it just makes sense for a criminal syndicate to have a personal army of droids.

Or maybe IG is building a droid revolutionary army

Just a reminder, Palpatine still has the Scimitar around the time of the OT, and lends it out to special agents.

I did not know that.

Always wondered what happened to the ship but never took the time to check.

I see all the droid ones being for the Separatis Sub-faction - giving Scum an actual Sub-faction, which makes sense since the Separatists did hire plenty of bounty hunters, and irates during the Clone Wars and its lead up (Durge, Jango, others, even the early IG droids that led to IG-88 being built).

And then also many of said bounty hunters and pirate using said hardware after the war ended.

If it turns up in rebels it'll make it into x-wing but that's the only way.

It is possible, it makes more sense than Primary factions. However I think the main question is who will get what, and I'm afraid that leaves Imperails out in the cold as I doubt they will get the Droid Fighters. I think S&V would be the ones to get all the CIS starfighter if that were the case.

However with more Disney products coming out to include Rouge 1 and the later trilogy, with those movies I think FFG will be pulling from Disney produced shows before they go back to the prequels. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the ARC-170 in Star Wars Rebels? Either way I think the ARC-170 will be as far as FFG digs into the prequels for some time. Sorry fans of the N-1.

As a wreck in the background of an abandoned Republic base.

So no, Rebels is not the reason to include it, unless FFG knows it will appear in Season 3, but we haven't even got a trailer... haven't even got any pictures of S3 yet :(

honestly, I would prefer if it was a stand alone game that was compatible and had compatible rules/crossover with X-Wing. That way for tournaments you could have 3 different classes... "classic" "prequel" and "mixed". I doubt it would ever happen however....

Calling it.

Nu-class Attack Shuttle coming for Rebels with "Stolen TIE" docking rules.

If it turns up in rebels it'll make it into x-wing but that's the only way.

I remember when you said they'd never have any prequel era ships too, under any circumstances.

I wonder what the next goal posts will be?

Yeah, Lobot's girlfriend (really) uses it briefly in the Lando comic mini-series.

You know, I completely overlooked that it was a Nu-class shuttle that Cham's crew was flying.

EXACTLY!

If the ARC-170 had never turned up, I wouldn't have thought about ANY prequel ships being in X-Wing. But now, I start to wonder what else might come.

I know three children who were brought into Star Wars with The Clone Wars series. I can't imagine, with so few CANON ships now that much of the EU got binned, FFG wouldn't at least try to gain these new potential customers whose fond nostalgia won't be the same as us OT Veterans.

My topic was about how FFG could release the ships without new factions or a new starter. This would still be Rebels, Empire and Scum.

I believe my original post gave a sensible suggestion of how this could happen. Potentially in one Wave:

REBELS: LAAT/i

Rebel large base ship with two auxiliary arcs.

EMPIRE: V-Wing

Empire small base ship with Astromech slot.

REBEL & EMPIRE: Jedi Starfighters

Darth Vader, Ahsoka Tano and Kanan Jarrus in a different coloured starfighter. Possible introduction of a Force Pilot Talent.

SCUM and VILLAINY: Vulture Droid and Tri-Fighters

There is a statement from FFG saying they will have rebellion era ships. ie no prequel ships unless they also exist in rebellion era I dont have link but if you search you wiill find.
