So lets say that sontir fel is at range 1 of a decimator. Sontir is partialy in his ark but his closest point to the decimator is out of ark. would the shot be considerd in or out of ark
firing with turreted ship
The shot at Soontir from the Decimator would be an out of arc shot because ships with a primary turret weapon take the closest-to-closest range.
Edited by ParravonHowever, note that other effects -like autothrusters or tactician- check if the ship has parts inside-arc at given ranges. So, even if the shot is an 'out-of arc shot', the ship actual position can still trigger in-arc effects.
would the shot be considerd in or out of ark
What Jehan said.
I don't believe there is anything in this game that checks whether the attack line is in or out of arc. All arc-related effects instead check whether any part of the target's base is within the shooter's printed arcs (and, sometimes, at a certain range within an arc) and don't care about the point you actually shot at.
Edited by Quarreli have to admit that i'm still bit confused on this
![]()
autothruster will not trigger if any part of the base is in the firing arc? and tactician will not trigger if the nearest point is at distance 2?
i rekon i'm a bit slow btw ![]()
Basically, read the FAQ section an 'Range in Arc' and come back if you're still confused.
basically, i red it twenty times so far
but nevermind, i will ask my opponent!

No, you should never let the opponent decide... Ask a judge....
But there is really nothing confusing... If an ability ask for an arc, you check if the ship is in the arc... whatever the line of attack say. you check the arc.
The only difference is the range of the attack for additional attack or defence dice, then this is based on the line of attack.
Tactician talk about arc, then you check if the attacked ship is in arc. Authotruster talk about arc then you check if the ship is in arc. That's it, nothing to be confused about.

Ships attacking with turret weapons must measure from closest point to closest point when determining range for the attack with the turret, and then closest point Within Arc for the effect of Tactican (X-Wing FAQ, Version 4.1.1, Updated 03/15/2016) See Firing arc under "Inside Arc at range X" for more details.
I'm sure it reads the same for Autothrusters. Just remember that you are doing two ranges, one for the attack, and one for the ability.

BOTH. Or more accurately anything that triggers by being "in arc" will go off although the range will be determined by the actual closest range

If an effect cares about a target being "inside your firing arc", check whether the target's base is (even a little) inside any of your firing arcs. It doesn't matter what weapon you fired or whether the closest line is in or out.
If an effect cares about a target being "inside your firing arc at/within/beyond Range X", measure the range to the closest target point in your arc. Again, it doesn't matter what weapon you fired or whether the target has a piece outside your arc too. This is a separate measurement from the attack range, and if you used a turret, it might be a different number.
Tactician and Autothrusters are two common upgrades that use the second wording.
Edited by QuarrelSo what I am understanding from this is in my example
So lets say that sontir fel is at range 1 of a decimator. Sontir is partialy in his ark but his closest point to the decimator is out of ark.
and if the inside part of his arc was at range two.
the shot would be range 1, tactition would be able to trigger and sontir would not get to use autothrusters.
Also just read on the FAQ that if the part that is inside the arc is at range 3 but the part that is outide is range 2 then he would still get auto thrusters because the inside arc portion is range 3. page 4 (in hindsight if i would have read this more carefully i would have probable my question awnsered )
Edited by PatrikYour example has 2 parts in that that should be clearly defined
Range of the attack of a PWT is measured closest point of the base to closest point. In this case that is range 1
Autothrusters is triggered when out of arc of the attacker or at range 3. This leave us with the following questions:
Is the ship in arc? Yes
Is the ship at range 3? No
Thus Autothrusters does not trigger.
If this PWT would also have tactician equipped you would add the following question -
Is the closest point of the defending ship in arc and at range 2?
If yes, Tactician triggers. If no, well it's at range 1 and we just wasted a lot of time figuring out all of this ![]()
HOpe that clears it up
Is the ship at range 3?
The current wording of Autothrusters doesn't care about "THE" range of the target. It cares about the range to the closest part that's in one of your firing arcs.

Fair pick up.. range 3 in arc should be the wording
