DEATHRAIN

By Psalm 112, in X-Wing Squad Lists

People don't use bombers (not Tie Bombers just bombers in general). I think this is dumb. Here's why:

Deathrain (26)

Proximity Mine (3)

Seismic Charge (2)

Extra Munitions (2)

Enhanced Scopes (1)

Total (34)

Use enhanced scopes to move first, run right up to someone, and drop the prox mine right in front of them with Deathrains ability. Unavoidable three attack dice, every time. Have taken out 3/4 of the opposing squad with him alone. So, enough with the meta, and enjoy the looks of frustration as Soontir blows up without even firing.

I tried something like that, and was very happy in my "theoryhammer" until I faced a Rebel list full of shields... They cared little about my proximity mines

needs conners

don't trust dice; abuse the fact that you move at PS 0 to deny anything its action step

How often do rebel show up any more though?

Haha that's what I thought! The guy I played with could either bring Rebels or Imperial Aces. I really hoped he'd have played Imp Aces that day...

Deathrain is just too expensive. I think Deathfire will see some play since his ability is sweet. For 25 pts, you can field him with conners, EM, and fletchettes. Nice support/control ship for little cost.

Success/Failure of Deathrain depends largely on his wing-mate.

I fly him like this usually:

FCS, EM, Proton Torps, Conner Net, Prox Mines, GChimps (41)
He's expensive, but scary. On the 30th, he's going to be set up like this:

Elec. Baffles, Proton Torps, EM, Prox Mines, Prox Mines, Long Range Scanners. (39).

LRS lets me take a target lock on whatever I want to on the board on Turn 1. Turn 2 should see me launching a torpedo at whatever I locked last turn. Turn 3 should be either dropping a mine directly on someone, or K-turning and taking 1 damage to not be stressed (Baffles), and *then* dropping a mine on someone or taking another target lock, depending on targets of opportunity.

The 39 point DR is going to be run alongside a 61 point Rear Admiral Chirrineau. VI, Vader, Isard, Reb. Captive, Engine Upgrade.

-edit- also, your maths appear to be wrong. My fingers and toes tell me your DR in the OP comes in at 35 points. At that number, I'd definitely do EM, double prox for 34 points.

Checked the math. not wrong. Like your builds though.

And how many times have you actually tried deathrain to see if he really is to much?

Oops, you're right. No idea how I came up with 9 points of mods there. Must have counted the Seismic as a TD or something. Sorry.

Deathrain+Soontir+Quizzy is how I use deathrain.

I love Deathrain and use to fly him all the time in casual matches (Messing with Redline more now though, same cost) But in competitive tourneys he is too expensive and gets taken down fast. Same with redline. He is cool, but I dont think is really worth the points.

I think EI/Waffles is interesting on Deathrain. Being able to k-turn, boost, conner, BR is huge.

I've yet to manage to make it work, through inexperience, but it feels like one of those combos that SHOULD be amazing if you can git gud with it.
