Availability of the Core Set?

By Rheingold, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Just about every online distributor is out of stock of the Core Set, even this here Fantasy Flight one. This will really put a crimp in getting my friends involved. Any word on when the core set will be widely available again? Tis the season, I would think.

CCG Armory says they have it in stock.

FFG also lists the Core Set as "at the printer" for a reprint run. That usually means 3-6 months before you see it on shelves, but it may be different for reprints.

And TimeWellSpent claims to have three in stock at the moment (I've never ordered from them, but my recollection is that TimeWellSpent has a good reputation among boardgamers; I've bought from CCGarmory and have had fine service). It definitely is a tough time for the Core Set to be out of stock with the buzz around the Martell game and it being the holidays.

I must be the only physical store with a copy on the shelf. Don't game stores carry this game? Oh, wait, that's right over a year into a successful game and new card game concept there are still those game stores that just won't carry any card game other than Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh!. What a loss for the entire gaming community.

Amen!

Since the Core Set is unavailable, does FFG have any plans to release single standalone/dual House starters? Because I understand it would be quite difficult to get a new player into the game with the main starter out of stock and the set itself is a large first time investment for players entering in a new game.

No. They're printing more Core Sets. If a player just wants to start out with one deck, he/she should probably just get Princes of the Sun.

Actually most distributor's are out of it. I don't think it's for lack of effort on game shop's part.

I know the Compleat Strategist tried but failed to get it stocked in time for our melee event there (and was not pleased about). Fortunately the timing of the Martell expansion was just about perfect for them so that got several purchases of that (plus chapter packs) by the attendees.
