What are your top most-satisfying X-Wing moments?

By davidhaus, in X-Wing

Going back to tutorial mode and teaching the missus how to play. No focus, actions, obstacles or upgrades. Just pure manoeuvring and shooting.

Tute mode means she's not overwhelmed by the amount of abilities and actions to have to keep track of yet and it gives me some practice flying against an unconventional opponent.

Once she becomes more confident we'll start to add in the advanced pieces.

In the meantime she pick ships it based on pilot artwork and I have to balance an opposing squad using random amounts of squad points. Sometimes that means squads of 2v1 sometimes 3v2. Our next game is going to be 4v2. Having said all that, we don't add any extras - be it ships OR rules - until she's confident with what we're using.

I always fly the smaller squad to ensure I dont automatically get position advantage by virtue of flight experience and numbers. I also don't insult her by going easy on her either. That doesn't mean I play hard core though. It's still a fly casual situation so if she forgets to do something or accidentally picks right instead of left that's no big deal, just do what you meant to do.

The most satisfying part, is that she's having fun with it.

One shotting a Royal Guard Jax with a mangler cannon Bossk.

Oh, I missed one. From the Winter kit, running Brobots. Range 1 of a Bossk with 3 hull remaining. I roll 2 blanks, a focus, and a hit. Declared spending target lock, and picked up the hit. Opponent warned me it was the hit. I said I knew, and rolled it for a blank. Triggered gunner. Rolled 4 crits.

It felt strange, but also good.

Generally, flying with my sons.

We played a 150 points match against one of the better local players yesterday (my son had Palob and Kavil, while I had Boba and Zuckuss, our opponent was running Raging Tycho, Jake, Poe, Near, and Hobbie) and we lost, but to a 1 Hull Hobbie and 3 health Jake.

My son flew real well, and what's more, I left him pull bad moves, explaining what I'd do instead, and then he actually worked out why it would have been better, after the fact.

Then he wanted to play the same game again today, twice, swapping sides. I won as scum with only Boba left, but I crushed him with rebels.

It's been a great family hobby!

My memory concerning this game is sketchy however, I do have a fun one from just last week. Got to my FLGS and got to play a friend who doesn't get to the store as much as he'd like. He really likes the Firespray and flies it **** well. He plopped down Imp Fett and Whisper or Echo. I didn't have a list on hand so while he went out for a smoke, I cobbled together Scum Kath, 2 Z's w/ Feedback Array and a Scout Jumpmaster with Dengar.

By turn 2, he had 1-shot one Z with the Phantom but that's as far as he got. Kath obliterated the Phantom a turn or 2 later in her aux arc. End of the game came when his Fett, moving before my VI Kath, didn't clear her so bumped while I did a hard turn centering his side in range 1 aux arc. 5 hits. Dead Fett. Not bad for a list thrown together in 5 mins and the 1st time I'd used the Jumpmaster. Was fun doing white s-loops.

1 rounding a TIE swarm.

When I did a 4K with Wampa to make it exactly between a contracted scout and the board edge and also barely out of arc of Zuckuss who would had blown Wampa up if he bumped, instead I blew up the U-Boat before it could shoot. The 4K making it without going over the edge I credit to Mynock tips at the end of one of their episode telling my about the asteroid placement, and making it past the Uboat I knew would make or break that game. Went on to win the tournament too. Best tournament appearance I've ever had.

I missed one. Bossk in Nashtah Pup winning the game.

Leap frogging through an asteroid field with echo.

Anytime I hit somebody with a conner net with a k wing.

Just had another very satisfying event.

Flew 8 tie fighters, 4 academies 4 black squads. I won a game without ever breaking formation (other than the 1 bumper that sped forward) and the only rock i hit was a debris so i didnt care lol. Completely blocked off a Dengar and blew him up in 2 rounds :D

Probably my most satisfying moment still ended in an overall loss. An epic game, 2v2, 150+200 points per side.

The resulting mass of chaos, collisions, and destruction led to the GR-75 Transport to being the most hated thing on the board at the FLGS. Promptly dubbed the "SS Prophylactic" by onlookers, the Transport began an attempted support role, but quickly was reduced to a fire ship as it's abilities began to play havoc. Spitting ion, as well as stress tokens, the GR-75 was directly responsible for the destruction of One TIE Defender, one TIE Adv x1, and two TIE fighters before slamming face first into an Imperial Raider, locking it into place for a few rounds by their head on collision, before finally scraping itself apart on the nose of the Raider. It was an altogether glorious mess of carnage by the ship with no guns.

Last year at Regionals between round 3 and 4, I think. I'm just sitting at a chair resting, and I'm hearing snippets of two different conversations around me talking about some guy who is running 2 TIE Defenders and hasn't lost yet. I felt super cool.

Playing a local tourney a few weeks ago. My son and I show up and - we're the only ones! Turns out all the locals traveled 3 hours south to a Regional event in Austin, and so it was just the two of us.

TO starts us on time and says if no one else shows in the next 30 minutes, it's officially just us. No one else shows.

We both want to win. I've never won a tournament and he wants to beat me. There was absolutely no going easy. 100 point death match and the winner gets to be crowned tournament champ as well as get the sweet IG-88 alt art card and all the various tokens for first place. Plus bragging rights and getting to rub salt in the wound to the loser for all the smack talk.

He still won't let me see the IG-88 card. ^_^

Getting three procket A-Wings into range one of Chewie and eliminating him during the first round of combat. Feels good, man. Extra satisfying because his remaining ship was a mangler Leebo, which could not hit the A-Wings, ever, and was quickly pecked to death. Total time, 25 minutes.

Am I reading this correctly? You were driving the brobots, missed a range one shot and gave yourself a second four-die attack at range one? Gunner should not have kicked in, if so, as the only four die cannon is the HLC, the HLC cannot fire at range one, and 88B does not allow you to attack with your primary on the second shot.

Thought of another "moment". I was flying Roark, Cracken,Blount and two Zs vs a 3 ace Imperial build. My opponent doesn't fly Rebels and had no idea of what RCB could do with Cracken and Blount running swarm tactics. He moved into what he thought was an easy two Z kill and grabbed red dice. Then I told him he was shooting next to last. After explaining Roark's ability, Cracken with cluster missiles and Blount with Assault missiles he just shook his head. I think I enjoyed the look on his face more than the win.

Derp, I meant I rolled 3 crits. Mea culpa. I was holding a Mangler Cannon on him. Rerolled the single hit from the four dice primary into a blank, then Iggy-B gave me the second shot with the Mangler, and I rolled three natural crits. He blanked the evade roll and exploded violently.

I should have mentioned, it was the last turn - and the last shot - of the game. Brought me from a modified loss to a full win.

Fully healthy enemy Darth landed on a debris and lost a shield. PS1 Z95 then proceeds to 1shot with a direct hit.

5th round of the U.K. Team Championships. Playing an exact mirror-match for my Fel-Vader-Palp list. Lost the initiative roll and have my opponent moving after me all game. Win 14-0.

Nicking 22nd place from a field of 415 players at the Yavin Open and thinking for basically the first time that I might not totally suck at this game.

Oh, and then realising that the thoroughly nice bloke whose 5 Kihraxshs I narrowly beat in my opening game and then with whom I spent a chunk of the morning of Day 2 talking about our shared enthusiasm for undercard members of the WWE NXT roster was noted forum Assault Gunboat enthusiast and all-around good egg FTS Gecko.

Prototype pilot A-Wing killing 6 ships in one turn (including two of my own), to win a game, via a deadmans switch chain reaction!

Opening and removing the packaging from a new long over due ship/ships that's taken for ever to arrive and smelling that new ship smell then holding and reading all of the new upgrade cards, Oooooh

When my two Binayre Pirates that sneak their way into all of my Scum lists completely wreck Soontir/Whisper/Poe/Corran. Repeatedly. At this point I don't care if those 24 points are better spent elsewhere, the Pirates are staying in.

I even did my first repaint on them in celebration of their successes.

Had a game 2 weeks ago. Can't remember the specific lists, but I had a Lothal Rebel (VCX-100) AC/autoblaster turret with dash, guidance chip Nera Dantels (b-wing), and a prototype pilot (a-wing). My game partner had hlc dash (yt-2400), tlt hwk with nien nunb, and another ship I can't recall.

It came down to me with the LR with one hull and him with the hwk with one hull and the crit that makes you flip damage cards to crit. We were on opposing sides of an asteroid with him going over it for sure. I couldn't make it out of tlt range to setup for a better attack (should he survive the rock) so I turned towards the asteroid and him, hoping to bump enough to avoid actually landing on the rock and risking destruction, but no luck. I just caught the corner of the asteroid and died in a fiery explosion. He finishes the turn by going over the rock and crits himself as well.

0-0 draw. Never happened before for me.

The Tie Advanced fix, no question. It instantly turned the Dark Lord from zero to hero!

Ioning a Firespray, and causing him to fly over a rock ... into a bomb.

Hitting a full health Ghost with an Ion Pulse Missile and watching it sail off of the board.

One-shoting Soontir Fel through a rock with a snap hot from a dying B-wing.

I'm fairly new at this and I have far more I barraging moments than good ones; but once I cleared a Rebel side that included Poe and Corran with a tie swarm and only lost Howlrunner, but all my Obsidian squad survived.
