FFG, you wound me :(

"Each round in Disable the Relays , you and your opponent each gain the opportunity to "fling" one bomb along a straight speed "5" maneuver template. You will want to master this "shot" quickly in order to fling your bombs at your opponent's relays and disable them. In the diagram above, we show how tricky this technique can be as the Empire's TIE bomber narrowly misses a Rebel relay."

WHY ISN'T THIS STANDARD!?!?!?

it would make bombs and especially mines a lot more powerful. Even if they didnt blow up while moving, the reposition could really f' people up lol.

Kinda like i wish clustermines would "drift" over time, slowly spreading out so the odds of hitting multiples is lower but hitting one at all is more likely.

An X-wing version of Grifball would bring me unending glee.

It would not hurt for the to rethink the bomb dropping mechanic. The is also nothing that stops bombs and action bombs from working differently, if there is a balance concern.

Then bombs would be too cool and become mainstream.

Best to keep them to ourselves for now.

Conner nets might be a little strong with the change (but given we see them almost never competitively...yup)

the only problem here would be Deathrain's front-bomb flying back at him due to the orientation of the pegs on the template

but that's just so freaking hilarious that I'd have to see it

  1. Deathrain moves
  2. Deathrain spits conners out the front
  3. Deathrain rolls out of the way
  4. Conners fly backwards 5-straight to land on some poor schmuk, who at that point just has to give you props for awesomeness

Nothing says something like this couldn't happen down the road ( a new bomb) maybe they wanted to see what it looked like in the wild without worying about the balance, if it is broken it is in one scenario.

nah because the scenario described in the preview article specifies inserting the 5-foward into the bomb pegs

but because Deathrain's foward bomb has the pegs facing back at him , the five forward would send it backwards

Thumbs up for the Wookie gif! :D

All it would require for normal play to be compatible with Deathrain would be to limit the usage of that mechanic only to bombs deposited off the back pegs with a straight maneuver. Deathrain doesn't have to use his ability. He just may .

It's one line of text. Not really an issue.

I never brought it up as an issue

I brought it up because it seems absolutely hilarious/amazing and should be kept exactly the way it is

I could get behind this as a rule for regular bombs, while mines follow the current rules. I'm sure they'll get right on that after buffing cluster mines.

Eh...mechanically, this is basically "loft bombing", which is what I took Deathrain's ability to be another take on....

Paveway_loft.gif

...so realistically it would replace his ability, being just another way to represent the same thing.

This is something I will certainly add on my HotAC group. Is cool as hell.

I would only use this with "dial" bombs, tho, not "action" mines.

My goodness, that would be an amazing standard ability with bombs. I wonder if they're playtesting this through a mission and seeing if it's viable for regular dogfights. They've never really highlighted a mission like this before, so maybe they're trying to get people's attention intentionally...?

Oh I understand all that, I was just being humorous. If we were wish listing bomb changes, let Deathrain use the 5 forward template to drop bombs. Why not, poor guy needs some buffs to see more playtime. Being a punisher and all :)

Yup. Bombs aren't changing, but the future will bring something special.

I think it's a good idea for a future release. Perhaps this is just additional playtesting.

You see what happened was when they had the meeting to design bombs, half the team wanted it the way it is now and the other half wanted the bombing in the article. So like determining initiative in the case of tied squad points, they decided to roll a die. The Article Bombers™ chose "hit". Unfortunately, they grabbed a green die to roll and, well,

you know how fickle green dice can be. And now you know the rest of the story.

This is what I think, as well. Fits the pattern...
