The basic, common upgrades for each ship?

By Lord Ashram, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey all,

Okay, played my first game with a non-buddy recently, and there some upgrades used (I had largely avoided them so far.)

Guy I played against used turbolaser rerouted with a bunch of corvettes, which seemed awesome.

He also used assault proton torpedoes on his Mc30s

They were both pretty sweet, and seemed vaguely auto-include to me.

I was wondering... Anyone here help a complete newbie out by maybe sharing... What are the "everyone does this upgrade on this ship" combos? There are already so many upgrades that, being as unfamiliar with them as I am, it gets tricky:). You know... Like "Gladiator always gets Demolisher" sort of stuff?

Guidance for this newbie is very much welcome!:)

Rebel-centric cause it's what I play:

Demo on the GSD is one.

ECM and usually Leading Shots on the MC80.

OE + any ordnance on the MC30T.

TRC on the CR90A.

SW-7 on the CR90B.

Bright Hope on the GR-75. :)

Gunnery Teams are popular on ISDs and AFmk2s

XI7s and leading shots are great on an ISD

ECMs (electronic countermeasures) are popular on larger ships that can use them (MC80s, ISD IIs, AFMk2's mostly)

both titles (especially admonition) are very popular on the MC30

turbolaser reroute circuits (TRC) are almost an auto include on anything with multiple evades and red dice.

Ordanance experts on Raiders and Gladiators and mc30s

Engine Techs on Demolisher.

Major Rhymer if you're using imperial bombers

Jan Ors with xwings

Boosted Comms on carriers

that should get you started at least.

Assault proton torpedoes on anything that can have them (typically paired with an effect to get you a black crit, like ord experts, or screed)

Check out the link in my signature, which was a thread started to educate newbies on this exact subject.

generally, the most spammed in my area (since I last played) were

Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (more simply, TLRC) on cr-90as

Ordnance Experts on basically anything with black-dice so long as Skreed wasn't the admiral (including Rebel shrimp frigates)

which means, if you want to field multiple Shrimp frigates, you'll be getting some good upgrades out of the deal! (both the aforementioned upgrades come in that pack)

then there's Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) on anything that can take it, for fear of Home One

and Gunnery Team on Afmk2s with Akbar, as it just skyrockets the amount of damage they can put out against an enemy fleet

finally, if you want to work with squadrons, Boosted Comms is just an absolute godsend when available; especially when working with faster squadrons such as A-wings

My advice on upgrades is to try and remember you have 'em.

If I had a dollar for every time I forgot about the Intel Officers, Tractor Beams, and XI7 lasers I was packin', I could just about afford to get into Armada. ;)

I'm going to really help not at all by saying even a ship without upgrades can be good.

Everyone loves running around with their ships completely buck naked!

Armada nudist colonies are attended primarily by VSD-Is, in my experience. You might find the occasional Raider or ISD-I there as well. For Rebels, maybe the odd Assault Frigate, but that's more MkI style.

Follow what Ard wrote. Those tend to be the absolute most common.

Beyond that, you've got a lot of options and people build differently.
