Neat details on the models, but too much for me.....kinda

By mjjlamb, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello,

I am new to painting, and have painted a few Descent models. The monsters I can handle, but some of the heroes have so much detail, I can't even figure what some of the details are: belts, cloth layers, straps, armor, etc. I guess it doesn't matter too much if I mess up, but are there some hints or clues to help define what the details are on models?

It helps me to apply a wash to the model after it's been base coated. Helps to make the fine details pop.

The only thing I can suggest is looking closely at character artwork on boxes and rules books, or googling painted up minis from other gamers. Boardgamegeeks.com has a good number of painted pictures on it, might be a good resource for you.

Being fairly new to miniature painting myself, I recently bought a head magifier for all detail work on heroes and monsters. Helped a lot!

I went for this model: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00T7JUWFS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .

Not too expensive and it does what it is supposed to do. Obviously, there are much better (and much more expensive) magnifiers around.

Best way to get your mini stand up in details is to first prime it black, and then prime it with grey primer from high angle- you will have all details highlighted.

I do it that way for all my painting work for years now:) For example(not my work, just random pic from web): Zenithal%20Priming%20Tutorial%203.jpg
