Does the thiefs ability to take an item for free allow him to take the item AND to do something in the village during the same turn?

also, can he go and take gold or items from other players INSTEAD of battling them? or is it rather a result after combat?

I am unable to locate anything in the rules that says otherwise, therefore I see no reason why the Thief cannot take a purchase item AND visit one of the village options in the same turn.

When a player lands on another player, they have the option to either use a special ability on the other player OR attack them. Therefore, yes, the Thief can land on another player and use their ability to take an item and not do battle with them.

I dont want to be a bother, but can you direct me to the rules that backup that statement? As I stated in my reply, I am unable to locate anything in the rules that says that you cannot use a character's ability and follow instructions on a board space at the same time. The character card itself does not state that there is a limitation.

It seems that you can always steal, no matter who you visit...

It's a bit weird for me, that's why i have wait to post this answer..

Now that i have post the answer above.... me and my opponent, have decided that we will not allow this rule to happen.

The meaning of the thief is to steal, where you can buy objects etc, such as market, market day and blacksmith.

It's very weird to me, that a thief can steal objects by the mystic, or healer. This makes no sense at all.

I have also ask John if he says the same about the merchant. I am still waiting for his response..
