Art of the force awakens

By Gosric, in X-Wing Off-Topic

So i finally picked it up. Been meaning to for a while but the hefty price tag etc. Lot of interesting designs in it some of which are inspiring me to create a few things. Like the two seater X wing and the heavy armed TIE. As it appears that they 'were' going to give the Rebellion uglies. since there is a pic of Poe unloading from a ship with two asymmetrical X Wing thrusters and a Y wing nose

Funny though the original BB8 looks like a head less version of a Corvan droid and there was a ship that i designed as a Corvan assault ship but changed because i thought the thrusters were too Corellian that has its doppelganger in the pre-production art as well *L* .

Coincidences i know but it definitely shows my head is in the right place i guess

Interesting concepts. Some good some a bit less interesting. But im rather liking the atmospheric TIE despite the fact it is way too over armed with the rear turret

I tend to agree with the shuttle idea as a fighter variant. but as a personal Sith shuttle it is a lot like my Krayt class. Which in turn was inspired by design from 1970 something so i cant condemn it too much. The dagger winged TIE works for me with a bit of redetailing.. especially since the different engine configuraton allows for a turret. To me it makes sense. A cost saving Imp design using the basic cockpit design on multiple craft. TIEs have always struck me as somewhat modular. The second from the bottom J Wing has potential with a bit of work as well

I do like the DaggerTIE, although I think there's a bit too much going on with the cockpit all round, not just the rear ball turret. There's a lot of elements at play on it, but you can see how it might have developed into the Special Forces TIE.

The Rebel ship below the shuttle - Super Y-Wing? That's packing a lot of firepower. It looks like it has a couple of the Turbolaser emplacements from X-Wing Alliance welded to the front of it!

I remember seeing a few of the concept art sketches before Force Awakens was released, and they had me a little worried; I'm kind of glad they stuck to some of the classic Star Wars designs - very restrained from Disney, considering how many toy lines they could have sold!

The super Y is listed as a Transport so i think it is more if a proportion issue they have. The Dagger TIE has way too much going on i agree. But can be fixed
