/D is also relying on dice alone for offense (can't count the number of times freaking Tie/D Vess rolls 2 hits no matter how many times he modifies)
which the x7 does too, but that evade at least does not ![]()

At some point all ships have to rely on the dice for offense and with three dice getting two hits out of them, even after modifying, isn't that bad of a result. It's just a fact of life that sometimes you are going to get two hits even with TL and focus on Vess. But I think that loading Vess up with an ion and his primary, you're going to do decent damage. First, because the defender has to decide if they want to burn their focus/evade on the ion shot or the primary shot. If Vess catches a small base ship with an ion, they're probably going to end up dead unless they have a boost which increases their odds of living a little, but not much.
Going from a TB to an ion is almost always worth the points. It does a damage and it has better opponent control.
I feel that the x7 Title suits Ryad better and it is slightly cheaper. If you drop her down to that and ditch the Mk2 Engines from Vessery, you would have enough for Omega Leader. OL has great synergy with Vess since he wants to get a Target Lock and keep it.36 Countess Ryad (34), Push the Limit (3), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1), TIE/x7 (-2)38 Colonel Vessery (35), Adaptability (0), Ion Cannon (3), TIE/D (0)26 Omega Leader (21), Juke (2), Comms Relay (3)
I eould however highly favor VI on Vessery because he can actually benefit better from the TLs of Omega Leader as he could fire before Omega which frees the latter up to use his TL if he really needs to!

That's exactly ehat i was thinking. Ryad is so unpredictable and has awesome action economy with x7 title. And you can fit Omega, who is so much better than anything else in his point range that i is totally ridiculous. Or even play a Palpmobile if you cut back a bit on Vesserys upgrades. I don't know however if it's better than Omega in this case!I feel that the x7 Title suits Ryad better and it is slightly cheaper. But the second that you burn that TL, your opponent can them modify their dice against your new roll. There are loads of dice combinations where it would be better not to use the TL so the defender can't use a focus or some other ability like lone wolf. And if that ship that you have locked can shoot back at you, that's even less incentive to burn the lock. So given that there are generally very few instances in which OL actually uses his lock, having Vess shoot before him isn't the biggest of deals. The only reason I give TIE/D Vess VI is if I've got a tractor beam on him so more friendly ships can take advantage of it. But honestly I almost always put an ion on him.
Thinking of trying:
Vessery: The D, ion, mk2, vi
Rexlar: x7, ptl, mk2
Scimitar: Intel agent, Mara jade, mk2
Or
Vessery: D, tractor beam, vi
Rexlar: x7, juke
Omega leader: juke, comms
So am I just missing something? I have seen ZOUNDS of x-7 builds am I the only one really looking at the TIE/d and going that's the better upgrade? Sure the -2 points is awesome and a free evade on a 3 or higher move is nifty but I see it easily thwarted but two shots one being a cannon or choice? Are others looking at it and just not talking about it? Other than Vessery with say a tractor beam not seeing much...
I'm a loyal devotee of the Decimator and have been running an effective build with RAC and Vessery using TIE/D:
RAC
- Expose
- Experimental Interface
- Ysanne
- Vader
- Weapons Engineer
Vessery
- TIE/D
- Tractor beam
- Veteran Instincts
Points: 100
RAC throws TLs all over the place for Vessery. They're both PS8, so on the same turn Vessery can tractor beam a target, either causing its effect or clearing evades/focuses, then follow up with his primary. RAC then hammers with 4/5 dice and his mini-focus ability depending upon range.
It's been pretty effective and a lot of fun. They tag team really well.
