This being the Scotland who voted overwhelmingly in favour to remain part of the EU.
Decision time for the United Kingdom tomorrow.
I've always believed, at sort of a gut level, that the world is on its way to being a better place. Every once in awhile that instinct takes a little hit. What an awful move. If the UK can become this xenophobic at current refugee levels, imagine how bad things will get in a few decades when we're pushing 4C warming and global refugee pop has increased by an order of magnitude.
I am genuinely concerned about western civilization.
Already rumours flying about other countries leaving the EU.
We're never gonna have a single world governement are we?
We will eventually. This just set it back decades/centuries.I've always believed, at sort of a gut level, that the world is on its way to being a better place. I am not convinced it will ever happen, or that it should happen.
Let's get into space first and meet some green chicks before we talk one world government, priorities people.

Well, in the not too distant future we'll need to hand over control of our society to benevolent AIs as the only defence against malevolent AIs.

You fool there are no benevolent A.I just ones that are more patient.
We have the kinds of problems now that cannot be solved by individual countries. And they are multiplying.
Stupid people? ![]()

That's still better for me!

Green? Ew. I'll take my Asari un-Thorianed, thanks.
I'm so, so sorry guys. I hope we don't make a similar mistake in a few months and elect Donald Trump.
The general consensus is that there was severe demographic split between the young and old on this issue.
Time will tell if this is going to be better or worse for the UK. But we shouldn't be surprised if those who wanted to stay vociferously paint those who wanted to leave as parochial, dense, short-sighted and foolish. It is natures way of justifying holding onto a minority opinion (We lost, but we were in the right, so the winners must be dumb).
As a Canadian, it really doesn't affect me. I don't really follow British politics, but it sounds like the larger portion of the population didn't feel that the perceived benefits of being in the EU weren't sufficiently overcoming the perceived disadvantages. Whether the problems were in perception, or in actuality, fully realized or over-represented, this too time will tell. One thing is certain, the majority of the population felt they were being screwed by the EU, and their frustration surely dove them to vote as the did.
The only comfort for those who are sore about the results, is that at least they don't have to vote in America's next vote. Can you imagine having to vote for either one of those game show hosts?

You prefer the professional liar and crook Hillary?
Can of worms opened.

If you compare the population increase of locusts in Australia during a plague and the current rise in population of humans we can only conclude we are a plague.
Plagues generally end with starvation, floods, or some other form of disaster. In case of humanity World War III can be added to the list of reasons. Makes me wonder why I went to live in the most-fought-over-country in Western Europe.
As long as our neighbours stay in NATO/OTAN at least they won´t invade again*.
One-world government shall be achieved by either:
- The surviving humans, after WWIII included nuclear weapons.
- The US, Russian, German, Chinese, Japanese, and Indian heads of state close a deal on ruling the world together.
- A Skywalker
* - I am originally from one of those nations so don´t read this as a heavy accusation ![]()

If she ate 7 babies a week on live TV she would still be a better option than the alternative. He is the end. He is giving up on the future.I'm so, so sorry guys. I hope we don't make a similar mistake in a few months and elect Donald Trump.

And if elected would only last 4 years as an ineffectual blabbering lame duck. Liberals would take the midterms to stop him.
Hillary on the other hand would rule for 8 years and ruin our country along with all those she starts wars and regime changes in. And she'd do it secretly so we don't find out for 20 years like her husband did.
#NeverHillary
Already having an impact. Just been into town and the first thing the guy at one of the games shops said, If you need anything X wing do it now. They've been told to start prepping people for 10% price increases for anything imported.
There is one way above all else of working out how sound the decision to leave was.......A Mr Trump thinks it was a great idea. All we need now is for the US to go crazy in November.

You'd have to have a huge mouth to eat a live baby.

Easily
I'm not saying Trump is great option, but he's at least not more of the same.

Well, no, he's certainly not that. Mind you, cyanide-laced molten lead isn't the same as Weetabix but I still wouldn't want it for breakfast however bored I got of the 'Bix.

What does a unifying government give you over individual cooperating countries other than the threat of force?
What does a unifying government give you over individual cooperating countries other than the threat of force?
It would be the ultimate tyranny of the majority. Right now, in theory anyway, if someone doesn't like what their government does, they can leave. I could for example immigrate into Canada if things got bad enough here that I couldn't take it.
But with one world government you remove the final option people have, and a simple majority get to decide the fate of everyone because there's no longer a different place you can go to.

You could have something like The Culture.
