Decision time for the United Kingdom tomorrow.

Watching the death throes of an empire in real time is both fascinating and terrifying. I'm not in Britain, but there's going to be massive ramifications for us here in Ireland, too. Not only are they our biggest trading partner, we're their only land border. A border that was only a short time ago demilitarised...

The empire died a long time ago. I wouldn't bet against the UK breaking up. It's probably a certainty that Scotland has another referendum and this time vote independence. And I wouldn't bet against Northern Ireland doing the same and if that happens you might not have a land border with what will be England and maybe Wales.

Yep. I supported the union at the last Scottish referendum (I'm English but my mum's Scottish), but I'd support breaking up now.

Best of luck to all the Brits out there. Hopefully things won't be as bad as is feared.

We've woken up this morning 25% poorer than we were last night, and falling.

My colleagues thought I was joking when I booked my holiday day to Catalonia yesterday "before the prices rise". I'm glad au did, because it's probably the last holiday I'll get for a long, long time.

Just wish I'd had the foresight to pick up some Euros at the same time (I.e, convert ny entire savings to them)

In a similar boat, I voted to remain in the UK in the Scottish referendum. The one key point that could convince me of another Scottish referendum would be exactly what's happened today, with Scotland voting to stay in the EU against the majority of UK voters. So I'd more than likely vote the opposite way if such a thing were to take place.

And with Cameron resigning, leaving the country without a PM in the midst of an unprecedented event (and likely hailing the way for someone along the lines of Boris to take charge <shudder>), the markets are still falling. It's slightly terrifying to watch.

Wishing we could declare independence in Newcastle ;-) especially after the words everyone wants to hear on a Friday morning news programme....... Boris Johnson is odds on to be next Prime Minister. Got two years or so to figure out if getting out of the country is an option, and no that's not me joking, I'm seriously wondering if it's a possibility.

All the big cities were Remain, let's all go with Scotland. We'll join ourselves up with a big series of bridges from Edinburgh to London.

I've always believed, at sort of a gut level, that the world is on its way to being a better place. Every once in awhile that instinct takes a little hit. What an awful move. If the UK can become this xenophobic at current refugee levels, imagine how bad things will get in a few decades when we're pushing 4C warming and global refugee pop has increased by an order of magnitude.

I am genuinely concerned about western civilization.

I seriously cannot believe this has happened....

At least it's narrated by Sean Bean!

Oh, that's Civilization 6 I'm thinking of...

**** this sour parochial little country and its ****ing sickeningly predictable embrace of the politics of division and ****ing resentment.

Good news! At least that's the NHS getting an extra £350 million a week now, right? Right?

For ****ing ****'s sake.

Remember the date, people: 24th June 2016 - a victory for myopia.

I gather the Northwestern Territories are looking for people to go and live there. Can anyone confirm / offer advice?

You can check out whenever you want, but you can never leave. ..

As someone with myopia, I take umbridge with being lumped into the same category as those imbecillic goits.

At least Boris Johnson is happy...*

*Yes I know that's Garey Busey, but come one, they could be twins! :D

Even if "things" aren't that bad, it's the principle. We've basically said "h* you" to our friends and allies, we want to be on our own. We're nerfherders.

It's ok man, the UK (and by extention the commonwealth) helped us out trough two world wars. You guys keep doing that and things will be cool.

I'd make a joke about the Falklands...but things are serious enough as it is. Mind you, I wouldn't say no to seeing a united Ireland.

Yeah that's a d*ck move of him. If you're the PM, you can't just take your ball and go home becuase the other kids wanted to play something else.

Already rumours flying about other countries leaving the EU.

We're never gonna have a single world governement are we?

The EU is doomed now we've left others will as well it'll cascade in the next few years I really wouldn't put your money in the euro.

If they were to abolish, or at least curtail, free movement of labour, then Britain might change its mind, and the Front National etc would lose some of their strength too.

Quite right, my apologies, heat of the moment.

Also, if anyone was still in doubt about how unbelievably stupid Donald Teump is, he's just arrived in Scotland and tweeted "Place is going wild over the vote, they took their country back!"

This being the Scotland who voted overwhelmingly in favour to remain part of the EU.

They probably are going pretty wild. Wild can be negative, right?
